Description Ink drawing of Tank Girl. Based on an image from one of the comics, but the pencilling and inking is all me. I had an art teacher once who told me that using other comics as a visual reference was good practice, and I have to agree. It's helped me a lot, especially with line weight.

Wonderful piece. This is a great picture of Tank Girl to reference from and practice from - it's one of my favourites. I also, use the Tank Girl comics as references for drawing anatomy and certain other things - Hewlett is one of my greatest artistic influences. You inked this fabulously as well; I really like it.

That's why I hope you wouldn't mind contributing this piece into my new group dedicated to Tank Girl: [link] I sent you a request. Also, feel free to join the group and create more great pieces like this.

Love Tank Girl (which is obvious from my screenname) and I have read all the original comic. Much love for this piece. As for copying..I use other artwork, mainly anatomy, as references when I draw.

love tank girl, and i love this (not seen this panel originally, so it enables me to appreciate it more as your own illustratory skill )

i wouldn't have said copying is great practice, i mean, it's not a bad idea, but i prefer to simply look at another's work, and not try to replicate it, but simply channel the idea through my eyes/tools

hehe. Tank Girl is crazy.

And it's not considered copying if it's creative studying! How else will you learn?

I had an art teacher that told me comics isn't art and that copying is bad...he's an idiot! copying is crucial to learning and comics are more satisfying to produce and read than any other form of art.

Very nice work. Love the inks on this.

And yes, referencing other's work is a great technique in learning. A lot of pro's reference each other, so it's all good.

I agree, I use other comics all the time...for line variation ideas, patterns, kirby dots, etc.
