Did I mention I love your technique on introducing fanfiction? It's visual, it's simple, but very well presented, easy to understand and shows personality!!! This should be like some sort of "begineer's guide"!!!

Maybe in pony (or human) society it is that way, but this is the Everfree. Things get hunted and eaten every day, that's just how it goes. Apple Bloom was no exception. From a dragon's and forest critter's point of view Apple Bloom was being careless, not paying her surroundings enough mind and letting predators follow her like that. Jade really stuck her neck out for what was essentially just another prey about to get caught. The wolves could have easily hurt Jade if she didn't have fire breath and the element of surprise on her side.
In an environment where staying out of harm's way is your top priority, where you either eat or get eaten, there is no such thing as going out of your way to protect strangers. Jade just returned a favor, because she has some sense of morality and she felt like she owed it to Apple Bloom for returning her meal to her. For our standards returning the apple may have seemed like a small gesture, but in the Everfree this is very different. In this case Jade was the careless one and she basically handed her meal to Apple Bloom, who could've chosen to eat the apple herself and in doing so saving herself the trouble of looking for food in such a dangerous environment. Many creatures need to resort to these sorts of sneaky tactics out of necessity. It just so happened that wasn't the case here. It didn't matter to Jade, however. A favor is still a favor.

You're not an excellent writer, but you're decent enough. Hell, you spell, capitalize, and punctuate properly, so that already places you above the average that fanfiction is known for!
