Description "Whah?!?"

black and white charcoal on art paper
framed
September 2011

A gift for my sister (and partner) - this is the rascal that almost destroyed my "Lost" painting (the OTHER puppy painting...) unfortunately, he's just to cute and seemingly stupid to get angry at! I'm getting more and more into animal portraits/wildlife work - its very challenging trying to simplify the different layers of hair!

haha, I love the use of foreshortening on the nose, you really captured his expression well!

Thank you I feel as if I have made him a little too skinny in hindsight... Although we think he looks like a meerkat because he has this huge neck and alert expression all the time! Thanks for commenting!

Thanks a lot! Yeah I ended up just doing it in blocks of tone, then working in the hairs each way with either the white or black. I dont know if that is the 'correct' way of doing it, but thats how I usually handle human hair. The differences is also that it is charcoal... I would have been lost without my white chalk though!

Thank you very much! I don't do animals very often so it was a challenge, but certainly something I enjoyed! Thanks for commenting!
