Description I think this is the first time in my life that I'll get muscle soreness in my hand from drawing too much. Β
But here it is: Tom Hiddleston as Loki from the Avengers (2012) movie. Reference was a screencap from the scene in which Loki is talking to "the other" (Alexis Denisof).
By the way: I don't know what my scanner did to the black parts. I see lines in this picture that I don't see on the original drawing.

If someone is wondering why I wrote "colour pencils" in the title for the first time: It's difficult to see in the thumbnail that this is a colour pencil drawing, so I decided to include it.

Paper DIN A4 190g/mΒ², Faber-Castell Polychromos artists' colour pencils and pencil (HB), 9h for the background... overall 18h(?)

Please don't upload my pictures somewhere else without my permission. Don't infringe copyright!

Here is the redraw (+ the "draw this again meme"):

This is exceptional! I want to add it to my favorites if you don't mind, and add you to my watch list as well! I have a question about your pencils. How do the Faber-Castell Polychromos compare to the soft core Prismacolor Premier? I would be very grateful to get your opinion on this because its obvious you have mastered these pencils. Thank You in advance, -Tony-

Thank you very much!
I've never tried Primacolors, but many people already told me that they tend to break. So I'll never try these pencils, because I hate it when a pencil breaks all the time. My Polychromos never broke. The (120) colours are vivid and they blend very well.
I just love these colored pencils!

AntoineNeon In reply to Quelchii [2015-01-12 00:53:56 +0000 UTC]

Yes they do tend to break, especially when sharpening. its very frustrating when your pencil is only about 3 centimeters long and its the only 1 you have in that color and you are almost finished, and it breaks again and again (the lead). But if you are careful they are worth it to me. But now you haves me excited to try the polychromes ! Thank you for your help, and if you have any critiques of my gallery I would love that. Thanks again, -Tony- Β  P.S. I named my son Logan Scott,HIS NICK NAME IS WOLVERCLOPS!

Ok. That sounds very frustrating... I can assure you that Polychromos don't even break when you throw them on the floor.
I can imagine to use Prismacolors (big areas) and Polychromos (for details) by the way.
No problem!
I'll see what I can do, but at the moment I don't have much time. I'm already happy when I manage to answer all the comments.

First we get a front view of Loki talking to Laufey, now we're getting the side view and more of Loki chatting to "The Other". I guess this means I can observe more of your take on the God of Mischief himself. ^^

So anyway, what we have here is a pose fit for one of such omnipotent power; back straight, eyes forward and staff at the ready. His outfit, while a lot of it looks rather dark by virtue of the background, has a lease on life thanks to good uses of colour pencils. They both have convincing looks of metal and woven fabric as a result.

The background looks very mysterious and certainly not of this world; far up in the heavens and beyond with what looks like a palace in the distance, and a really odd watery-type cloudy sky that just mystifies me, thanks to the deep blues and blacks in use here.

Let there be no doubt in my mind that this is another strong piece you've done on one of the most recognisable characters of superhero movies in a long while. Keep up the solid work!

Thank you very much!
You picked my first whole-body drawing with a "complicated" background (I "killed" one black Polychromo for this background, but after that drawing I was not afraid of backgrounds anymore). Now after two months I see so many details that I could have drawn better... But I still like this one, because of the colors and the "mysterious" atmosphere.

AussieDidge In reply to Quelchii [2014-05-13 00:03:42 +0000 UTC]

Complicated indeed. It takes a lot of effort and dedication to provide a background that's true to the source, especially one as effects-heavy as The Avengers would be.

It's good you conquered your fear of backgrounds as a result, as they can be serious assholes to contend with. Never easy knowing you have so many intricate details to take down and that one mistake could cost you everything.

Ah well, perhaps next time you may consider re-visiting this piece? Regardless, it's still some great work.

Don't remember me on this fact! I envy all the digital artist... they can just undo or erase everything with one click. When I slip with a dark colored pencil (e.g. when it breaks... which is a very, very rare event with Polychromos) everything is almost destroyed for sure. That happened one time before in the middle of a portrait. Luckily I could fix it. But if this doesn't work there is still Photoshop (I never had to use it that way, but I remove big fluff from the scan with PS).

I don't think that I'll revisit this drawing. Maybe I'll draw another screencap from this scene. But I'll draw another piece again (in a few weeks), because it is so bad... and I want to see how much I have improved in the last months! Perhaps I'll make a "draw-this-again-meme".

AussieDidge In reply to Quelchii [2014-05-13 13:32:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, if it means anything, I envy your skills as a traditional artist, seeing as I certainly can't match your quality of work despite the extra tools I have.

Thankfully at least PhotoShop has its uses for traditional artists as well, such as what you mentioned.

Okay, fair enough, I can see how it took a lot of work and precision to get this one nailed down. Seems like a nice idea to make this a "draw-this-again" meme as it's a great way to compare the past with the future. Good luck with all that.
