Very nice! I love how the use of the guillotine-- something very old-- was appropriated to address a newer topic.

At first I was a little confused and wondered if you meant "censor" but googling the word, I come to find a matching definition to fit the picture. The description helped too but you know. I love this drawing, too, so I'm adding it to my favorites. ^^

so very true!!!!
i agree with you, puritans and generally people who hate others for being creative, impose themselves on others by censoring/applying censor/censure on everything, and thus they ruin everything.
to those puritans i say:
you dont like something? dont watch it!
as long as its art and as long as its legal, there's nothing wrong with it!
you are a good artist, and your art is powerfull... this is rare.
keep creating art!

What we should censor: blatant racism, sexism, jingoism, and all true forms of Hatred, not the interpreted but the truest forms.
What is censored: anything that slightly offends someone and anything that really provoke thought or emotion anymore, except if it serves a groups purpose

And old drawing but always true... And it could have been a perfect one during the Charly's events.
Anyway, I do report people on Deviant Art. People who are publishing pictures of their cocks/vagagas... Because I don't see this as art, but as "oh gods, lets show to the world how the nature gifted me ! I'm so proud of my cock ! I want everyone to praise my mighty dick !"
Those are the only ones I would ban from DA... Everything else could have its place here. Even porn. *shrugs* Except perfect stupidity, everything is worth being shown and admired.

Hi! I've recently seen some of the work of your gallery and I really agree with you.
On the other hand (and please don't take this the wrong way) I believe there might be people concerned with the nudity and sexual content. To be honest I believe what you do in here is far from distasteful, let aside porn. You have great ways to approach many themes of our society, and because of that I understand the fact that placing a maturity filter may seem unnecessary to you and many people. But, then again, lets remember that DA community includes people from all ages, and countries around the world, so they might not understand that. So if someone reports your work keep in mind that. And well, you have two options here: either you could place the filter in your artwork more frequently (which seems to me a little extreme ...although I have to admit that if my younger self had stumble upon some of your work, I might have felt really uncomfortable. Though that's not the case anymore) or just don't take it personal (I know that's hard too) when someone reports one of your works. Remember there are parents out there concerned with what their little children may find in the internet, or people with different upbringings, etc. Again, I'm not saying your art is in any means wrong or inappropriate, but sadly many people do. I guess the perfect solution would be if the filters were established by the user, so they could avoid what they don't want to see, instead on placing them on the work itself, but anyways, we can't control everything.
On a more positive side, don't forget there is also a lot of people who admire and understand your art, myself included. Many artists, if not all, have dealt with some kind criticism through their lives; that is practically one inseparable quality of art, not everyone is going to like it. So again (sorry for being so repetitive), just don't take it personal and keep up the amazing work! And sorry for writing so much, I got carried away!Β

I don`t think the 'art' should care about censorship, if you draw something nasty\offending\dangerous\racistic\smutty or some other things that people find distasteful - it`s not art. Art should be easy to understand and admired by all - showing the bset of mankind and nature, not something most base (like nudity). This is what art is in my opinion.

Twatcher In reply to DOWModder [2014-07-02 00:35:52 +0000 UTC]
You mean, the artist who wants to show people his art shouldn't care about the actions that prevent him/her from doing that?
Although you are totally entitled to your opinion about what you like, I don't think you should put an equal sign between what you like and what art actually is.
And since there are "people" in the world who think differently on things, based on your definition I don't think you could find really many works of art in the world. And that would take out all the fun out of it anyway. How boring would it be if everyone were the same.
Gunsmithcat is really provocative, and is clearly passionate about sex too. And he combines the two and creates socially relevant messages that provoke and shock sometimes. And the main point is, it really communicates. And from the number of comments, to a lot of people too.

Very much true, and thank you very much for making the point in the first place!
It's one thing to report postings that violate the rules (such as I've done on Facebook*), it's totally another to claim something is porn/hate speech/etc. simply because you don't like it.
*(And the pics I reported were ignored, despite showing nudity, which was against FB's rules. They censor freethinking/athiest/pagan groups simply because religious fanatics report them because they don't support the fanatics' dogma. This is one of MANY reasons why I left Facebook forever and will NEVER return!)

"All of you who report works from other people because are against your morality are just killing the sense of art"
No they aren't. Firstly people who report images that break the sites rules do not kill nay kind of artistic integrity... They don't stop you creating that artwork, they don't stop you displaying that art work, all it does it stops you from posting it here, on this specific web site.... Because this website is someone elses property, as are the paid for servers that keep it operational.
Its like if I walked into your home, shit on your carpet & rubbed it into your walls.... An then when you get pissed off I screamed "ARTISTIC CENSURE!" in your face.
π: 0 β©: 1
QuilesART In reply to matthew-lane [2014-01-30 13:04:34 +0000 UTC]
well, this is not your home, this is not your carpet, and art is not shit
They make the rules and they use like they want, no matter if you broke it or not in your works, it happens to me and after arguing with the admins here they stop deleting my works here.
When you are against some kind of art you have the choice to watch it or not, when you decide to report and delete that you stole the possibility to watch or not for the rest of the people, because people like you use to think that your morality is the right one.
Rules are more important for you than freedom in art, then, you don't know what is the sense of art

"well, this is not your home, this is not your carpet"
No, its also not your home & not your carpet... TheyΒ do in fact belong toΒ Deviantarts mother company....Β She's just being nice enough to let you crash on the couch.
Β "They make the rules and they use like they want, no matter if you broke it or not in your works, it happens to me and after arguing with the admins here they stop deleting my works here."
LOL, no they didn't. In fact I think you'll find at least one of your art pieces coming down any day now.
"When you are against some kind of art you have the choice to watch it or not, when you decide to report and delete that you stole the possibility to watch or not for the rest of the people, because people like you use to think that your morality is the right one."
Its got nothing to do with morality. If the rules changed today to include "all images that use the colour blue shall be removed" then that's what occurs. No one stole anything form you, you can either comply or move on to another server, or build your own server, or just pay real money to rent your own server space & get a real website, like a real artist does. Morality plays no role in it, as things don't get taken down on the basis of me not liking a thing, but instead on the basis that it breaks the objective rules that you signed a contract agreeing to comply with.
"Rules are more important for you than freedom in art, then, you don't know what is the sense of art"
The rules do not stop you in ANY way from creating what you want to create. They just stop you from posting things here that are against the rules. When one of your pieces gets taken down because it breaks those rules, DeviantART police officers do not come & kick in your front door, confiscate your art, your artΒ supplies & break your fingers.Β This is not a thing that happens: All that happens is that they say "in my house we have rules & those rules can be seen here, you break those rules & you don't get to continue to sleep on my couch rent free."
So stop this "I'm a victim of the mans censor" you really aren't. If you think what dA does is censorship, you have no idea what real censorship is.

I don't need to know your morals as you can see in one of my last drawings. You are not going to change my thoughts and I'm not going to change yours, so...again, WTF are you doing speaking to me?

"sorry, this is too much long to read it, I have work and real life. I don't use to lose my time watching things that i don't like, but maybe you have more free time"
Wow, that is such a cop out. Its okay that you just realised that you are wrong, but don't try to hide that under the pretence that you didn't read the reply. We both know you read every word of it, but now are stuck for a intelligent reply.
"So, ask yourself WTF are you doing here speaking to me?"
I thought that was obvious: I'm telling you that you are wrong. Educating the ignorant is always time well spent.
"You are not going to change my thoughts and I'm not going to change yours, so...again, WTF are you doing speaking to me?"
The difference being that I'm not going to change your thoughts because you are close minded & arrogant about your inability to learn, where as I'm not going to learn anything from you, as you have nothing to teach. This is why you've chosen to take this line of logic rather than an actual rebuttal.
"I had this conversation many times, with many people, and it's really boring"
It will be boring when you can't give a real reply & have to rely on repeating the same nonsense.
