Hahaha it makes me happy to know that even professionals give up sometimes. It probably shouldn't, but it does.

It makes me less happy that your 'failed (for lack of a better word)' projects are still vastly superior to anything I've drawn/painted.
I know, I know, art is subjective and there is no way to compare two pieces and objectively decide that one is better, but it is sometimes very difficult to believe that xD

Mmm... while it is true that art is subjective, I humbly believe there is a clear difference between an artist that understands anatomy, light, expressions, colors etc. and someone that doesn't. Skill is a factor in the artworld and it can be measured. What is subjective, though, is an artist use of their skill and how it conveys their message in their work. Just because you use a pencil on a paper doesn't mean you're automatically a master, and that your work should be judged along Michaelangelo and Picasso. It takes practice, and sometimes when people do not have their practice, they will claim skill is of low importance when it comes to art, and that art is subjective... it's a common excuse, is my point. To save face, most likely. You can judge art on skill and you should. So when you feel inspired by somebody with higher skill, it's quite natural. Don't fall for the excuse. Fight it and get better. There's no shame in it.

I've often thought that. I always feel reluctant to believe it though, as if my experience doesn't allow me to reasonably make those claims xD Thank you, for the well thought out message, it helps a lot.
