Description The Ione Bridge, a cantilever truss bridge, was built in 1932 and rehabilitated in 1967. It is one of the oldest known examples of a cantilever deck truss bridge in Washington State. Spanning the Pend Oreille River, the bridge is 830.0 Feet (253 Meters) long and 26 Feet (7.92 Meters) wide. It has 3 Main Spans and 12 Approach Spans, with the center span 273.0 Feet (83.2 Meters) in length.

This beautiful bridge is all the more remarkable in that it connects a forest service road to a state highway in the remote northeastern corner of Washington State. I took the picture on March 30th, 2019, while out on a photo shooting drive through the northern end of Pend Oreille County, the closest Washington county to my home in northwestern Montana. I had not set out to find this bridge, in fact, I had no idea the bridge even existed. Rather I had set my sights on visiting Metalline Falls, the last town in northeastern Washington before you cross over into British Columbia. Along the way, I saw many beautiful sights, but when I came to this bridge, I knew I had to capture both the bridge and its lovely setting.
