Religion is what makes you blind"

I think the hair line and part of the hands are preventing the piece from obtaining that finished photorealistic feel. Got to do something about the back ground as well.

Awesome!

Though the eyes look a bit small. But that might just be me...

Thanks! I think they might be a tad bit to small as well.

I'd still say that the eyes look a bit small. I think they should be about 50% bigger than they are now.

It's still awesome though! : D

It is difficult to accumulate how big the eyes should be, ive read that the average human eyeball is around 1 inch (depending on source).

So realistically it may be correct, but i do agree with you about how they still look small.

That's a pretty accurate measurement I'd say. An inch is about the length of a thumb, and if you put your thumb across one of your eyes you might notice that it fits quite nicely.

And in the painting it doesn't look like the eyes are the same size as her thumbs.

Great choice with the bright green to really make that cross stand out. I definitely agree with above comment that the background could use a little zazz, only because it looks rather portrait-esque to me. Maybe even using a darker black than her dress may make the whole thing more dramatic. Overall, fantastic job!

Thank you Jenni, I too think the background needs work, everything else i was working with seemed to distracting.

^^I really need to start throwing in my own custom watermarks on pieces. I'm starting to wonder if any of them ever get stolen. >.<

Really strong message, and I love what you've done with symbolism (especially the blindfold and the eyes in her hand). The style is really lovely simple, with great realism. But, I think what really detracts from the impact of the piece is the overly simplistic background. Not that every background has to be of something crazy complicated like an intricate forest scene or the inside of a cathedral, but I think you could use the space (particularly the huge space around her head) to really increase your symbolic impact. Some ideas would be to juxtapose scenes from religious texts, or what really makes religion an "enslavement" when you don't question why certain people deserve to not know the love of God, by showing what she's not seeing by following religion and shutting her eyes. Overall, I think this is a wonderful concept, with a great message.

The previous background(s) that i was working with were to messy and distracting in my opinion, even though i do agree with this background being overly simplistic. Sooner or later i will probably work on it some more but i need to concentrate on some other projects for the time being.

but i really appreciate your feedback, it helps a lot!

Yeah--there's a real fragile balance between a background that enhances and a background that just distracts. Totally understand, especially about focusing on other things. Sometimes after you work on one thing for awhile, it's just time to stop, even if there is more that can be done. Good luck with the others!
