This piece has excellent composition. The background creates a clashing effect with the foreground character that gives it just the right amount of emotional movement. In short it lends to an effect in which the figure seems poised towards an action. That leads me to comment on the fluidity of the character, it is nicely drawn. The muscle accentuation is correctly placed for each arm, and its done in subtle manner. The shadows are ambiguous to the source to the light, however, they are well done and consistent over the entire piece. Two points of critique are the tattoo and the sword handles. In the former a degree of three-dimensionality would help to lend a better effect. As for the latter, while the swords are supposed to be square, it is a shape seldom so sharply contrasted.
