Thank you TragicFangirl! I use Prismacolors, they have a very soft and creamy lead, easy to layer and get those soft blends. Thank you so much for your kind comment!

I actually have a use for crayola's in my pieces, and that is because they do not have the same proportions of wax vs. pigment, and they are very easy to layer over the top of. I use them for a lot of my initial base colors, the lightest value and underpainting and backgrounds. So, keep your crayola's and use them UNDER the prismas and see how you like it

*highfives*
That is *exactly* what I used to do before I went to the dark side of art (digital)
Honestly, it wasn't the colouring part that I felt let down by, it was the inking side of things! So if you have any tips for that I am all ears!

What kinds of issues do you have with inking? I use exclusively Microns to ink with, even when varying the line weight they are the best, IMO. They are acid free and water fast. As far as technigue goes, looking where your line ends up rather than watching your line going along helps with trembling lines.

I couldn't ever get the lines looking smooth enough.
They came out... not how I wanted!
I think maybe it was partially the fear that once I made a mistake the sketch was ruined, so I over thought it all?

I notice when I am worried about ruining a piece, I carefully watch my lines, and that makes them wobbly, when I am less worried, the lines seem to flow much more smoothly. Think about this, if you make a mistake, you can always use the graphite method to transfer teh piece to a new paper and try inking it again.
