Like IronNarwhal, the tie ruins it for me. She looks nice and lively. I don't know who this is but its great.

The tie shouldn't be so floppy. Nice work otherwise.

Would be nice if the wings moved more.

This is super awesome... but there's way too much movement going on. i.e. the thing that stands out the most is the tie. With how little she's moving up and down, the tie wouldn't be flopping up and down like that. At most, the slight breeze would move it away from the body yet still stay straight.
Same goes for the skirt... it's moving more as though someone is blowing a gust of wind up there... It doesn't need to bellow out like that at all.

The sleeves would stay touching the arm. Look at your own arm when you're wearing a t-shirt: unless you're moving your arm up and down at blazing speeds, that sleeve is going to move with you, not bounce off of you.

Still good work, but if you tone things down a bit and REALLY think and study the way things move, you animations will look a lot smoother, and much more natural

Hope it helps

I agree about the tie which moves a little bit too much, not for the rest. My teachers as well as great animators such as Disney's always advised to exaggerate movements to make those more convincing, even if that means crossing a little the line of plausibility at times. This includes secondary animations, such as the sleeves there; this kind of animations are here to bring some more life to a general movement, and are fine as long as they don't take away the attention from the main action. It's more of a matter of flow, than a matter of likelihood. Too much is generally better than not enough: this depends of the style of course, realistic characters would have movements more reality-like but it is acceptable for a more cartoonish character in the style of Neige above. Look at some cartoon characters whose the movements are over-exaggerated. You wouldn't see anyone in the real world moving the way they do, yet it still works. Even though it's sometimes anything but natural.

Thanks a lot for your comment! C:

Took animation for 3 years. Worked in animation for 5. Yes animation exaggerations are fine, but you generally exaggerate when you want to achieve a specific results. For example, making a fat lady's rolls jiggle way more than they should because you want to accentuate the fact that she's fat.

The specific parts that I pointed out are in fact unnecessary exaggerations that only prove that you don't know when to hold back on exaggerating. Why is the sleeve bouncing more than it should?  Are you trying to say that the clothes are made of some kind of extra bouncy material?  is it important to the audience that that be conveyed? No? Then it doesn't need to be exaggerated.

Why is the skirt bouncing up more than it should?  is it because she's horny and trying to get the guys to come have a look? Is there some extra wind flowing around that is somehow only affecting her skirt because of some kind of magical properties?  No? Then why do it that way? What are you trying to convey by exaggerating the skirt's movements?

I'm really sorry, but if your animation teacher looked at this and told you it was fine, then they need to not be teaching animation because they're going too easy on their students; which means you're going to end up jobless in the animation field because no one (but me, but you won't listen) took the time to tell you you're doing it wrong.

So it's up to you. You can automatically get defensive and throw the theories (that you've just learnt) at me because you of course know everything and what your teacher said is the only way to do things. OR you can REALLY think about it, and let it sink in, and be better for it.

I'm out.

I know. I get butthurt.

But srsly. Always think of WHY things need to move a certain way, and you'll be on your way to awesomeness

TheBlackFawn In reply to AutumnHoney [2013-09-14 21:43:47 +0000 UTC]

i think the point was the exaggeration of the movement. they do it a ton in arcade based games as well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AutumnHoney In reply to TheBlackFawn [2013-09-14 22:33:26 +0000 UTC]

No actually they don't. If you REALLY look, yes the characters move a lot, but they still follow the basic principles of animation. Either way, I was addressing the artist because they're the ones that can learn from it. If THEY decide not to follow my advice, it's their business not yours.

TheBlackFawn In reply to AutumnHoney [2013-09-15 09:04:19 +0000 UTC]

no need to get defensive. i was just saying it may have been their intention to exaggerate it.
being a fellow animator, sometimes it being overly exaggerated it very attracting to audiences.
i didn't intend to be rude either, you just took it that way.

Mmmm, wonder who her opponent will be.. Either way, I'm sure that is far too much intensity to put all into a single animation file ;o;

I like how your animations flow freely, great job! Makes me feel like I'm playing some fighting game on GameCube xD

Just a few things I noticed. Not that I could do better, since I can't do animation, or even draw, but a few things that pop out.

The hair, while excellently animated to flow with the body, seems placed too low, as we can see the crowning of the head which is all black., and the top two strands are disconnected. I don't know if that's intentional, but it catches the eye more than is should.

The tie feels exaggerated, and tends to distract from the rest of the outfit.

The tail feels flat, as if it's sticking out of the side of the character and less from the back. Seeing as how the character is primarily facing us, the tail would probably look more realistic if it was placed to look more like it comes out of the lower back. I know that might hide it a bit out of the viewers perspective, but it's just something to consider. Still looks good, but just a bit out of perspective.

An excellent piece, for sure. Keep up the good work!

LucianTheDemon In reply to ShizaCoffee [2013-09-12 18:44:59 +0000 UTC]

I noticed this stuff too.

The two hairs at the top are supposed to be like that.

The tail does come out of the lower back if you look between her legs.

It doesn't matter if you see the crowning of the head. It's barely noticeable, anyway.

The tie, I agree, is to exaggerated, but it helps feel the flow of the outfit.

The tail doesn't feel flat. You don't go around seeing real cats with extremely fluffy tails. They have roundish, fluffy-ish tails. You don't need to see the fur anyway, and the animation of the tail is perfect.

So this was the animation?

This is very smooth done, I love how she sort of jumps up and down, preparing for battle. Her outfit is adoreable while her attached wings are looking more badass.

I love her bangs, the hair and the tail. Basically, I love everything about this picture. <3
