Do you ever use a fixative to hold a layer in place? I'm thinking of trying pastels some time...

Actually I use aerosol hair spray for fixative. Not the pump stuff. That's what I use to seal the drawings when I'm finished. I don't normally use it until then however. Not that you couldn't during progression of the drawing.
