Poinsettia is a 72 year old Nightkin doe priestess who managed to escape the Sundering right as it started, taking down four crazed stags intent on killing her, with poisonous and acidic potions intended for driving off the predatory abominations that once lived around the Nightkin's home. The scars over her body and face are a result of this quick but brutal altercation.

Poinsettia was an enigmatic character to the Nightkin, even prior to the Sundering- having an eidetic memory, often speaking in iambic pentameter, and very rarely emerging from her home unless called to the Nightkin council for some reason or other. When she spoke however, she was noted as very insightful, and very possibly prescient to some degree, though it was never proven- even to this day.

Despite her exhaustive efforts to try and bring the fragmented survivors together, she has become stern, dour, and short tempered through sheer frustration alone. However she feels that she has accomplished as much as she can alone, and when her time comes, she can die happy in the knowledge that the Nighkin will live on in some form or another. And she will finally be able to rest at last.

She was absolutely instrumental, along with the Equestrian Princesses, in reorganising the remaining Nightkin, and gathering them in one place. A new home in Sire's Hollow, a place to rebuild and be reforged in a new but familiar way. Under her guidance, Nightshade was nominated as Lady- the Nightkin equivalent to the title of Princess, and a ruined castle on the outskirts of Sire's Hollow is being rebuilt and repurposed as her Palace. Fittingly enough, it is named Sanctuary Bastion.

Poinsettia is physically small and weak for a Nightkin doe, and is now arthritic due to her very advanced age. She has outlived the average life expectancy for a Nightkin doe by 12 years, and suffers suffers variety of age related ailments and maladies. However, rather than take modern medicine, she brews potions and makes herbal remedies to keep her going that little bit longer. It should be noted that Poinsettia has a tendency to talk to herself while doing everyday tasks, and that this is not a symptom of madness- it is just a peculiarity of Poinsettia herself.

She has a very ornately styled curly mane, and she tends to keep small items in there for safekeeping. She is very religious, and maintains the ancestral faith of the Nightkin, and is committed to keeping it alive as long as possible. Poinsettia has also completed the process of writing down the remaining known history of the Nightkin, and also their holy book.

Poinsettia never had any children in her long life, instead dedicating herself to the art of potion making, and her religious duties from a young age. She remains asexual, and aromantic as she is utterly focused on helping the other survivors find their place in wider Equestrian society.

She lives in Sire's Hollow in a small house in the Merchant's Quarter, which was supplied to her by Princess Luna. Here, she is instrumental in the efforts to document and integrate the Nightkin into Equestria, and then perhaps to rebuild their tribe in the future- though she realises that she probably won't be alive to see that eventuality.

Poinsettia is fiercely intelligent, and very quick witted. She has a knowledge of Nightkin psychology as well, which has assisted her in tracking down some of the survivors. Though she doesn't have any proof of it, she suspects that there are maybe a hoofful of Nightkin stags at large in Equestria and beyond, and has been developing potions specifically to paralyze them so they can be brought in for interrogation and justice.
