How do you color these? The coloring is drawing my attention way too much.

various brushes in photoshop.. I just set the flow and opacity percentages down to about 60%, which allows for more texture/color variation. and the shading is just a gradient on a separate layer.

Figured brushes would do the trick. It's interesting, I like it.
