The Great Sean Connery passed away at his home in the Bahamas in his sleep. Death had to sneak up on him.

To me, Connery WAS James Bond (though admittedly Daniel Craig is a very close second!) His demure, acting and overall He man approach was the role as Bond made for him.

Though I still remember a just before Bond, Connery appearing as a British Soldier during the landings at Gold Beach in 'The Longest Day', as a Irishman in Disney's 'Darby O'Gill and the little People', to his later roles as the tough , Irish cop in The Untouchables (Which he finally got an Oscar!) To Ukrainian Submarine Captain in 'Hunt for Red October' and Dr Henry Jones in 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade', Agamemnon in 'Time Bandits' and his best beloved cameo in 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves' as King Richard (I remember the whole theater just breaking out into cheers as he pops in the wedding.)

But It was his role as James Bond, 007 that cast him as the handsome, tough guy. And according to many, the gold standard in which James Bond is portrayed.

Plus he was a proud Scot and supported Scottish Independence and even knighted by Queen Elizabeth in Edinburgh in 2000.

The world lost a great one.
