Impressive.. love the darkness and details in shadow and light.. there is some.. "hunted" feeling in the eyes that really give this picture life ^^

That's gorgeous! I love how dark it is... both in tone and atmosphere, I wish some of the highlights really popped though, like the eyes, and maybe a glint of light off the piercings.

Oh yeah, I really wish the reflective lights of the piercings popped out a bit more too--but they're were so tiny it was near impossible! Haha, thank you so much

lovin the attention to values, a true artist knows their values!... ha. nice charcoal work. vine charcoal? compressed charcoal? never heard of it, is it the same as your typical hb,2b,6b etc... charcoals?

Vine is a lot softer and lighter, it's good for the beginning steps of drawing since it's really easy to erase without damaging the paper like a 6b charcoal will.
Compressed is like a cross between vine and a charcoal pencil. It's thicker and heavier then vine, messier but also a lot darker. It's a bit harder to erase, but good for large dark areas.

oh nice im gonna have to look into that, Im workin on a large 17ish x 25ish charcoal and theres a lot of large dark areas. Are you majoring in art?

Or compressed charcoal would be excellent to get those large areas, just use the side and layer it on gradually.

It's very good. I for sure couldn't do something like this. But this one isn't appealing to me as much. It's really dark.
Still, It's cool nevertheless.
