Description How to Train Your Dragon fanart.

Practice, profile view and Jasmine's pose.
I used a screenshot from Aladdin as a pose reference, but I didn't want to just copy the picture like I used to do in high school, so I changed the characters to Hiccup & Astrid.

................JUST REALIZED I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE FRECKLES, DARN IT. *throws something across the room* Screw it, I'm going to bed.

Hiccup & Astrid are characters from How to Train Your Dragon, an animated series by DreamWorks, based on the book series by Cressida Cowell.

This looks great! Oh my gosh. The side-profile view... that's difficult to do. I'm not sure if I've ever been able to do it and make it look right! Haha, I mean, I can barely make the front view look right. But you did such an amazing job here! Just, well done! It's so good. >w< I especially find that you excelled with Astrid's facial profile in this picture. Great work!

You know, I find I do best when referencing other artwork as well... I... really should do it more often. X'D It really helps with proper placement and poses... and it especially helps to get down proper anatomy! I think you did splendidly!

Did I mention I love how you did Astrid's hair? It just looks beautiful.

Awesome job~<33

Oh nice!! Profile view is very very hard, it's good to see you diving right in and practicing it! And that's a really helpful thing, to reference a pose; I was worried about doing that for the longest time but the truth is many artists do that?? It's just good to look and learn from what's around you, y'know? Utilize resources!! Also I like the pose you referenced coz that makes me think Hiccup is standing on Toothless who's hovering just a bit below, a bit irritated but fondly tolerant of his human X'D

I really like how Astrid turned out especially! You got the back curve just right, and her hair is very prettily sectioned~ Poor Hiccup doesn't know what to do, and I'm sure Toothless is gonna do exactly what Carpet did and fly up for a "NOW KISS" moment X'''"D

It's nice seeing you drawing again, I'm seeing some good improvement! Keep up the good work~! Awwww don't worry about the freckles; I didn't even notice until you pointed it out! (I mean you could add them and rescan? Or digitally? If it bothers you that much that is, I think it looks just fine <3)

With drawing, I like to draw what I want to draw even though it's always beyond my skills at this point; I don't want to limit myself to only drawing what I'm currently capable of. It's very frustrating, because seeing how bad I still am REALLY REALLY SUCKS AND I HATE IT, but I still want to deliberately bite off more than I can chew. I think it's better for me in the long run.

Poses are something that I reeeaaally want to focus on, and I figure it's probably safest to use canon screenshots and photos I took myself as references. I Googled "Aladdin screenshot" and picked the first one that looked interesting. XD
Though I also want to learn how to draw the poses I see in my head, rather than copying canon poses every time. Like, I only want to copy canon poses for practice pictures; I don't know what to do for the pictures that come from my head, other than taking photos of myself. Sometimes that's not as feasible because I don't always draw adult/teen females with my body type, but I don't have anyone but myself to model for me.... X'D

Hahahaha, Toothless most likely is playing Carpet's role. XD (I've seen several people draw fanart of that kind of thing, HiccStrid making out or something while Toothless is rolling his eyes behind them. XD)

It seems like whenever I draw two characters together, one of them turns out decent (usually the first one I draw) and the other one turns out awful. X''D
I liked how Astrid looked at first, then started hating it the more I looked at it....
I still kind of like her hair (long hair is one of my favorite things to draw), but I think I got either her back or her boobs wrong (or both). I noticed it when I was sketching, it didn't quite seem right, but after studying the reference for a while, I trusted Jasmine and kept going. But then after I colored it, I looked at it again and was like, "..........Should have trusted my gut." X'''D

*about Astrid's hair* Sometimes I.... Like, I know certain things will look better if I define it with colored pencils rather than inking it, but I'm so afraid of losing the lines that I ink it anyway. X''D I'd rather have big black lines than lose the lines altogether.... *OCDDDD, I'm kind of surprised at the extent to which OCD affects my art ._. Maybe it'll get better if/when I ever get good enough to be more confident about my drawings*
Though part of it is that I just really like anime-style art. ;

The apartment was crazy, I could not draw there...or for months afterward, when all my art stuff was buried.... X'D So it's been a long time, but it's good to finally have time to work on drawing again.
My backlog is huge, though.... At some point I will be bombarding you guys with super-old horrible art once I finish getting them colored. X'D I'm debating whether or not to post them individually as I finish them, or wait until they're all done and post them in a big batch so they'll be distractions for each other.... Some of them hurt to look at. X'''''''''D

I THOUGHT about the freckles while I was sketching, but then it completely slipped my mind when I started coloring! And by the time I posted the picture and noticed it, it was way too late at night and I was like, "Forget it."
The next day I did add the freckles with a colored pencil (just on the paper; I didn't bother to re-scan), but it didn't work very well and you can barely see them. I did think about adding some freckles digitally, but I was afraid the digital spots on an otherwise all-traditional picture would look too weird....

Super-long message again, sorry.... X'D
