Description I am *so* going to Hell for this...

This is a Yuletide gift for my friend Bill, who, like me, is a long-time fan of the Cthulhu Mythos and all the colorful madness it entails.

Ten points and possibly a kiriban to the first person who can tell me who Cthulhu's second mommy is, and from which story we get that information.

Blasphemy accomplished with Prismacolor pencils over watercolor.

What gorgeous chant and imagery! It's a strange link to present on a goofy spoof image like this, but I really enjoyed the music.

Love it- i thought of Madonna (pop) and Spawn (comic) as well...which when it was not what I expected, sent my gears working- but definitely love it. awesome job...and from the looks of it you aren't the only one going to hell. I'll be there with bells on.

So much is going on in the picture, I love the teture and colouring work again. The whole concept is slightly freaky but it makes me think which is a good thing with piece of art. It has a certain feel about it, that you are looking at this in a evil or negative way, but you have applied so much beauty with the texture working that it doesn't feel as abad as it could have been with other techniques.

Overall though it is nice and I do like it a lot, good job

It is still amazing and I want you to teach me how to colour like you do.

LOL - thank you very much.

Technically, this one is a "quicky" piece and also a spoof. I've seen so many iconographic "virgin and child" Christmas cards, as well as all of that stuff we studied in art history class that I decided it was high time to do something silly about it.

Yes, it's kind of an inverse-concept - the anti-good and the anti-good's mommy, pretending to be something they most certianly are not. It does help if you're familiar with the wacky background stories that surround the creature called Cthulhu; then the irony and the humor make more sense.

LOL - a quick and goofy gift, it is...

This is the Christmas card that I will not be sending out to my conservative relatives. The get the pretty angel instead.

I think...I think...I think I have had an organism.

This is beyond brilliant. I don't suppose you have prints of the art available, do you? I would love one, as would others I know.

rachaelm5 In reply to HasturCTS [2005-12-02 18:06:28 +0000 UTC]

Ohhhh, the nefarious organism... LOL - I'm sure I'm not the first Mythos fan-geek who has done a piece like this, but it's evident that noone else is posting.

I did plan to do a small run of 50 prints of this piece. I don't work through DA's print service, however; I do my own printing, matting and shipping.

If you do indeed want a signed and numbered print, drop me a note. I promise that my prices are not as outrageous as the subject matter.

I forgot. *flips thru more pages* Cythlla's first appearance looks like it was in Brian Lumley's "The Transition of Titus Crow". I like the book and the concept of Kthnaid, however I think I'm one of the few fans that appreciates how Lumley had his way with the Mythos.

Btw, you might consider this cheating, and I don't want to be a cheater - I have a copy of "A Cthulhu Mythos Bibliography and Concordance: ([link] ). Once upon a time and every so often I've wanted to write my own fanfiction that has some of the Mythos in it.

rachaelm5 In reply to ittybittybits [2005-12-01 09:20:55 +0000 UTC]

It's certainly not cheating if you manage to find such an obscure reference.

...Actually, I was off... The reference *did* come up in Lumley first. The actual story that featured Cthylla was published in '97!

And as to Mythos fan fiction - that makes two of us. I need to get my writing gears moving again; you've set them moving in my head again!

ittybittybits In reply to rachaelm5 [2005-12-01 19:05:43 +0000 UTC]

There were actually 3 or 4 stories that referenced Cthylla, I was just fortunate enough to have read Lumley's book in the past few years.

Cthulu's second mommy should be his daughter *flips thru pages on a dusty tomb to get the spelling correct* .... Cthylla ... or I can't remember my Mythos that well.

Btw, I LOVE the picture. the piccy.

Lastly, I Nyarlothotep.

*runs in circles w/ glee* Yay! What are my limits? j/k Right now I'd be pretty happy if I could get a dragon of somekind. I love dragons.

LOL!

Your only limits are (a) no porn and (b) no automotive art, because I suck at both.

But I am ALWAYS happy to do dragons. Want me to just whip something up and dedicate it to you, or do you have any specific things that you'd like to see?

rachaelm5 In reply to moldycheese [2005-12-01 09:23:08 +0000 UTC]

A kiriban is a small drawing given as a prize.

Cthulhu is a fictional Evil Deity from a short story called "Call of Cthulhu". It was written by H.P. Lovecraft back in the 1920s or 1930s. Many other authors have written stories that take place in the same universe that Cthulhu inhabits - so many, in fact, that the collection is called the Cthulhu Mythos. It's spanned some three or four generations of weird fiction writers.

Right now, there might be a handbasket somewhere with your name on it, but my name might be joining it too after seeing this tableau and thinking of what other strange and unwordly triptychs we could all come up with. What's hilarious is when I saw the title, I actually thought of Madonna, the popstar, and Spawn, the comic book character together!

As for Cthulhu's second mommy, I'm trying very hard to remember, but everything's all jumbled up...now you're getting me all worked up!

rachaelm5 In reply to squidink [2005-11-30 18:05:59 +0000 UTC]

Actually, that Popstar and McFarlane's Best came to mind for me, too...

You'll have quite a hunt ahead of you if you're looking for the story that names #2 Mommy - I think it's only been published twice before. *evil grin*

The original "Call of Cthulhu" story is probably available if you do a quick Google search. That'll give you the background. I'm not giving away the answer to the query in the description, though...
