Description For my wonderful , for our 4-year-10-monthaversary (I have another piece in-progress for her from the month before that, but I need her help with it, so that's not going to be posted for a while)

Obviously, this is Zoey and Tharf, our characters from the previous DnD campaign we played in. Just older. The DM who ran that, our friend , is planning his next campaign now (which probably won't start for a long time, but still). All of his games connect to each other somehow, and this next one takes place 3 human generations (60 years) after the last one ended. So Zoey and Tharf would still be alive. Therefore, we had to figure out what would have happened to them.

In case anyone wants to know, here's their post-game story, and the basis for this pic:

First off, over the rest of their lives, both Tharf and Zoey take the Epic level feat that extends age in order to even out their ages. They would plan it so that neither of them would outlive the other for very long.

After running/teaching at "Smash Academy" (as Zoey has dubbed the school she founded) for 60 years, Zoey and Tharf would choose to retire. Though Zoey loves battle, and there is still a world to save, she knows she is getting older and there are now more capable hands to fight the Big Bad. Assuming she has established an impressive faculty who she can trust to train the warriors needed, she passes the running of the school on to one of the best students she's had since she started teaching. She would also choose a few people out of all her favorite weapon-using fighter students and pass some of her weapons on to them. She gives Stormbringer and matching armor to her best student that is near graduating and planning on joining the war (so, not the one she chooses to pass the school onto). She gives the Labrys to the best of her younger students, one that isn't near graduating but shows more promise than any of her/his classmates, as she promised her mentor she'd do. Also, she would take much thought and deliberation in deciding what to do with the Chaos Sword, and Shaard. She sees the Chaos Sword as something dangerous, still, and the thought that it might fall into enemy hands frightens her. She resolves in the end to keep it with her, carefully guarded and always sheathed, but makes sure to tell Emperor Fred that she has it. So if he ever thinks it is needed in battle, and asks her for it, she will freely give it to him. She also keeps Shaard, as it was made for her by friends and she will treasure it always (no matter how much it insults her).

She and Tharf move to a remote, foresty area of the safe space Emperor Fred created, living in a cottage together. Tharf sets about creating her own private botanical garden and library and continues her research in peace. Done with adventuring and teaching, Zoey chooses to take up weapon-smithing, and has a forge built, attached to the house and also partially built into the earth, as Gnomish forges probably are. The Dwarves that live in the mountains nearby teach her the basics, and the Gnomish weaponsmiths also try to teach her, but she gets frustrated with them VERY quickly. The rest she chooses to figure out by trial and error. Once the quality of her weapons was good enough, at least in her eyes, she would start giving them to Emperor Fred to take back and give to the armies to use, keeping only a few of her favorites for herself and maybe the first one she made (even if it sucks). She would also make herself a new axe early into her practice of the craft, and as she got better, keep making new ones.

They would also have made it clear, in a nice way, that they want to be left in peace to live out the rest of their lives. However, they still keep in contact through magic or letters with Shino, Soriah, Enta, Haggart, Blaine, Zoey's parents, and Emperor Fred (assuming each person is still alive). They’d also go to a nearby settlement now and then for things they needed, since they can’t do everything themselves (insert mental image of Zoey trying to make butter here), and Zoey would keep tabs on what’s happening, even though she wants to stay out of it and have a chance at a peaceful life.

If all goes well, they continue to live like that till the end of their days

I always did wonder what happened after the adventure... Not that I've ever seen the end of the adventure, but hey...

Pretty awesome.

Thanks! The DM of this game, and the one before it, is very good at covering the "after the adventure" stuff and letting us choose what happens, in the very end, to our characters.

That's awesome. Though I didn't think heroes would ever know retirement.

"Smash Academy" that's AWESOME!!!!! This turned out so totally great! And they would, of course, get the occasional visit from Shino and Jozan, with their little ones. Then just the two of them when their seven children grew up. Then just Shino, after Jozan passed, to say farewell because she's going to spend the rest of her life with the Elves fighting the "Big Bad".
I love this piece, Rach! It turned out great! So true to their personalities too!!!!

Hehehe, thank you I'm glad you like this so much.

The deterioration of numbers in Shino's brood when they visit (going from Shino+Jozan+children, to Shino+Jozan, to just Shino) makes me sad. Especially the mental image of her visiting the last time to say goodbye. So much angst....which probably means I'll have to draw it

I really struggled with it myself. Wayne never stated that Jozan would have taken the feat, so I didn't think Shino would have (both have to, right?) But yeah, she was dead set on not leaving to fight again until her children had all "left the nest" (all seven of them). And, as Wayne stated that Jozan would have probably passed around the age of 90, and Shino would look like she's only around 50ish, she would have been set on unleashing her sorrow and (still) regret out on the golden cities of Shir'Tar to the last.

Well, I don't think they'd both have to take the feat, but it wouldn't have made sense for Shino to take it if Jozan wasn't since she's going to outlive him anyway. And having her take out her grief on the Golden Cities makes sense.

If Wayne hadn't been okay with the retirement idea, or if Tharf had died before the game starts, Zoey would have done the exact same thing and I was planning in that case to have her die in battle.

I'm sure Shino will eventually die in battle, unless Wayne intends to use her somehow in the new campaign. I'm sure he knows how she acts.
And yeah, the whole "Rage against the Golden Cities" is always helpful. She still (to the end) blames herself for the fall of the continents.

Aww, but if its anyone's fault, its Stormraven's Okay, not really - we all had a hand in saving Soriah, so its not like any one of us can be blamed. Why does Shino blame herself?

In her mind, if she had been a better leader, things would have turned out differently and the fall could have been avoided. If she had handled things with Zoey and Tharf better . . . If she hadn't betrayed Ciaran . . . If she had tried to figure something else out for Stormraven . . . There are a thousand "ifs" in her mind.

...I mentally biff her upside the head. As Zoey would do for real if she knew about all this.

Actually, she alluded to it in the letter she wrote to the pair when she left to find her parents two years after the fall, but she never truly outright vocalizes it to anyone . . . except maybe Jozan. But probably not, as he would most likely chide her for it. That's just the way she is, and knows he is. She's stopped pouring her heart out to him since the incident with Ciaran on Wulan.

Yeah . . . part of the reason why she left to seek her parents and the other two styles. *behind my hand* Though to be honest, I think it's just because Wayne was getting tired of the fact that he did too good of a job with this campaign. He was sick of me "pestering" him all the time about it.

"Pestering" = good roleplay, I say. And I think you agree, considering how you feel about what I've done with Tanisevania.

Except for that fact that, BECAUSE I've put so much into so many of my characters, I understand. To be honest, I think Wayne's been DMing longer than he's actually been a PC, so he's probably forgotten what it's like. Not to mention, I'm just his wife.

I think that he should value the work you do on your characters, as it shows how dedicated to the game you are, especially because you are his wife (since he loves you). I don't know if he's forgotten what playing is like, instead of running it, but he has had his Friday night game for a while now and he's playing in your game now. Based on how he plays Grim, I guess he's just a different kind of roleplayer than you and I are. He does a lot of work, true, but he seems to prefer to do his roleplaying around the table or at least in person, whereas I like doing some of it in type (since I use words better that way). So yeah. I dunno.

I'm trying to not get too "attached" to my characters now. That's just the way he is. He's a very different roleplayer than us.

Aye. >_> I am a bit prone to morbidity. Still, I suppose it's part and parcel with the class description. *points to SN*

^_^ Good art peice. You also got aging down well. Most people draw older folks either as young folks with white hair or overdue the details and get something that looks less like an aged individual and more like a deceased lizard-man.

There I go being morbid again.
