Dark green veil and the purple and blue costume... I love it.
She is a beautiful drawing and exactly what many bellydancers look like in real life. Yes there are many stick thin women who bellydance, but they just don't get the same effect as a real woman.
Thank you for such an inspirational piece of art.

Real woman? You mean slender women are unreal?

'Real' women are just average, not labeled, Oprah Winfrey is a real woman - always struggling with her weight, trying to get healthy...that is real, not skinny or fat.
I know I am not healthy and I am trying to improve therefore I am real.
'Real' people are ones who have not had cosmetic surgery (changing their looks to 'fit in' as opposed to someone who has surgery to correct birth defects or say cancer survivors having recontruction surgery.
There is a difference between 'curvy' and 'fat'...You can be curvy and healthy, but not 'fat' it is a fine line but it is possible

Where I live, it's average to be slender and attractive.

I love this. Great to see the non-hollywood version of a bellydancer! You give me inspiration for my next piece to make it like me too!

you are absolutely correct about the ancient bellydancers being larger they needed 2 be 2 use their bellyand hips. skinny bellydancers can still bellydance but not with such good effect because its not as fuid when their skinny. and the drawing is lovely great work

Wow, i can't believe i never saw this one! So beautiful!! And little toesies, hehe! Cute!
I love the detail on the skirt - so much more detail than i can ever do ... at least convincingly with those bead things and the sheer parts. Everything about this piece is amazing, the sash she's holding behind herself, and the mendhi, and the bracelets, and the earrings, and the pose, and everything! Hah, and i just noticed the toe-rings! I can never draw jewellery that looks authentic, or at least that doesn't look like it was invented poorly on the spot. I love how that just seems to come naturally to you! I totally could take a lot of pointers myself from this! Wow, i can't believe i missed this! Bravo! Instant fave!

Wow, what a lovely piece. Her skirt is beautiful.
Have you ever heard of Meredith/Nemain? She's a BBW bellydancer and an excellent XME fanfic writer. I figure you have...

I just stumbled across this today, but it's definitely going in my faves!
I love art that celebrates different body shapes, and as I am a heavier girl myself, I am partial to this style. I am also looking into taking up some belly dancing classes, so this really gets me excited. I love it!

Thicker woman are the ones who are supposed to be belly dancers. They are supposed to be larger, and curvier. Hips, and a belly. Thats why they are called "belly dancers". Wow, Bjornieman obviously knows nothing about taste and/or culture.
Speaking from a modern belly dancer that is.
