Description
As promised, a more developed design of this: [link] . She's a lot more dwarf like now, and her over all design is the first I've been happy with in months.She's a female dwarf based in Tolkien's Middle Earth, although albeit quite an unconventional female dwarf. Yup, she does have a beard (look closely!), and yay for dwarven underwear XD
This is part of a larger character sheet I'll be doing- I still need to design her weapons, bags, cloak and other essential items needed when out adventuring.

According to one tumblr blogger's head-canon, female dwarves have a LOT of testosterone, and thus grow full beards; leaving the main dwarfs' genders up to debate. Pronouns don't even matter.

Yeah, I know a girl who's 5 foot. I think as a dwarf she should be a few inches shorter.

Well my friend told me that in a interview with Richard Armitage, he said that Thorin is 5'4. So I guess humans in Middle Earth are around the 5'6-6'5 range. So I'm just really short T_T

What are your thoughts on how to do Dwarven proportions? I'm trying to draw a dwarven female and having a hard time grasping long the legs should be as well as arms and body and what not.

My design was heavily inspired by Wetta, who designed their dwarves with a ratio of 5 heads per body (I think?), rather than the usual 7ish for humans. The male dwarves have longer torsos and shorter legs, but I found that was to be far too masculine for my female dwarf. I still need to tweak Tarin's anatomy a lot, but she's essentially about 5 and a half heads in height, with the torso being very short and the legs being quite long. I want to make her quite a bit chunkier again though, with perhaps longer arms and shorter legs

Unconventional as she may be, her design is sooooo good. Makes me iiiitch to get my sticky paws on PS and finally get my colours for my lady dwarf and post her. Isn't it fun making ladies with beards? Ahaha.
