Lighting Notes:
This scene is an original scene constructed without references. I don't know where I would find a picture like this XD
It's an indoor shot from a living room. The scene consists of a floor and two walls. The other walls and ceiling are
open to let light in. The scene uses a dark grey world color to give a default lighting. Then I have added a cyan area
light on one of the empty walls. It's creating the television light. If you look at real television light you will notice it
produces sharp shadows, but it is an area light. In blender and other renering software, area lights produces soft
shadows. I think the sharp shadows comes from the short shadow travel distance. Like there's always a short distance
from the sofa to the wall behind it. So when people are hit by television light, the shadows on the wall behind them are
sharp. I guess the tv screen is also not uniformly lit, there might be brighter spots in the movie, and darker spots.
This actually gives you a lot of artistic freedom when creating this sort of light. You can use an area light, a sharp
spot light, or a combination of the two. Perhaps the most perfect solution is to use a plane and give it a texture that
is a screenshot from a movie, but I didn't go that far with this scene. Just a normal area light.

The main light is a lamp that's placed beside the sofa I'm sure they have a name, but my english fails me here. Anyway,
it has a partly see through lamp screen that diffuses the light. To create this light I use a point light, light orange color,
and size 0.2. If there were no screen to diffuse the light, I think a lightbulb should have size 0, or size 0.05.

At last, there are table candles, which uses point lights. It's a very minimal effect on the scene.
Not really neccessary I think.

Blender Notes:
I learnt about rendering layers for this scene. At first I rendered at 2000 samples, and the skin got grainy because
of SSS and dim lighting. To fix this I set up a rendering layer that only renders the skin (but it includes the rest
of the scene in calculations).

Comparision:
Whole scene 2000 samples = 6 hours (skin failure)
Whole scene 4000 samples = 12 hours
Non-skin scene 1000 samples = 2 hours
Only skin 4000 samples = 3 hours
So by setting up render layers I could not only render 1 hour faster, but also improve the quality.
I think it's very handy to know about this. Not only to optimize render time, but also for fixing
errors in renders. It's a relief to not have to re-render the entire image.
