One thing that keepsΒ me puzzled is her hair, in Xnalara it's white, but in Blender, and now I see in Toolbag as well, they become pinkish.

I assume the lip, nails, eyes shine is not a photoshop but a glossy shader with masking, well executed.

I can explain the pink hue in Toolbag:
The hair in Toolbag uses sub-scat and translucency, both if which are set to peach color. This gives the hair a weak pink hue.
If a plain diffuse shader is used, the hair is white like it is XPS.
Perhaps your blender hair shader is doing something similar?

The nails and lips exists on their own meshes so masking is not necessary. I have a skin material, a lip material, a nail material and so on.
The eyes are actually bad on this model. First the eyeshadow doesn't cover they eye completely. And secondly, the iris looks like
it gets distorted during x rotation (you can see her iris has a strange color shift on her left eye). The eyes have been touched up
slightly in post. The catch light was made clearer, and I added an iris gleam opposite of catch light.Β

Yep, you are correct, I am using translucentΒ BSDF in my hair shader. That explains this peachyΒ color effect onΒ Luna's hair. Did not think it may affect the white color palette.

Gotcha, I am happy to see when a model has separate lips and nails meshes, like Irokichigai01 models so a designated shader is applied, but with all other models, I add a new material layer after an island separating procedure on lips and nails.
That way it makes fewer vertices, avoiding this normal map outliner bug (easy fix by merging them later) and no need to create a texture mask in Photoshop that I totally hate doing.Β 

Oh, the Luna and Misaki eyes, you do not have to tell me about them, it's a pain. With Misaki it is impossible to pose her eyes, and I get a feeling she is avoiding an eye contact no matter how her eyeballs are posed.
And Luna eyeshadow, what a pain! Simply delete the eyeshadow mesh, duplicate her eyeball, scale up a bit and add shader nodes. We need some serious fix with her eyes, too bad,Β can't report to gameΒ devs this problem.

The catchlight, what did you add? never heard of an iris gleam.
Personally, for this eye effect, I am making some poor attempts to create the Eye Lighter panel in Blender just like in real photography. Without a spark in eyes, even the best render lose personality.

Yeah I also create custom textures for other models. can be a bit annoying at times. Luckily the body textures are quite generic so a mask can be reused. The face is worse =/

I think porters are knowledgable enough to fix Luna's eyeshadow (if they want to). The way you did it basically. It's possible they don't know about it.
And lol, if reporting lunas eyeshadow to tecmo, one could also report the disasterous normal map for luna and honoka. It boggles my mind they don't fix it.

I'm no expert on eye anatomy, but from what I've understood there is space between the lens and iris which is filled with a fluid. Light refracts in this fluid. What artists have observed is that the catch light appears where the light enter, refracts, and highlight a part of the iris opposite of the catch light. A lot of eye textures (for games) have the iris gleam painted into the diffuse texture. A cheap way of faking it. The catch light usually appears on top of eye (sun and ceiling lights) so it's pretty safe to statically place the iris gleam at the bottom of the iris.

Some 3D artists build up their eyes in layers and try to recreate the human physical eye. Kinda complicated. There's a cheap trick where you do the eye in 2 layers.

First you create a bulging iris normal map. The eye lens is not perfectly round, it extends outwards slightly around the iris.Β 
The eye mesh: Apply normal map inverted (so it bulges inwards), use pretty high roughness. This will fake the Iris gleam. Since the normal map is inverted, the highlight appear opposite of catch light.
Copy of eye mesh. This is supposed to be the lens. A transparent material whose only job is to create the catch light. Apply the normal map, give it low roughness, and make it transparent (but still showing specular highlights).

One of the DOA girls (cant remember which one) has a bulging lens in the face normal texture. I've copied that part to the other girl's normal maps.

That Eye Lighter panel look cool. I have never seen something like that before. Photographers have a lot of interesting equipment. Do you have any success with your 3D replica?

Β , I tried to create one from the cylinder primitive by removing vertices and leaving only the one I need so it creates a rounder plane similar to Eye Lighter panel, gave it the emission and yet, I can't get the same result as the real emission in Blender would produce. So, no I am still working on it, hope one day I can make a good one.
And thanks for the eye explanations. I also tried to replace DOA eyes with the real Blender eye, but the resultΒ was weird, real eyes not gonna cut it with anime faces, nope. Just did not look right.
The only one I can try is to use Hitomi Normal eye map and change the UV mapping, this should help to generate this parabola effect in iris.

The DOA5 asses are quite flat, but it's much better in DOAX3, VV and some mods.Β 
I agree that when it's flat, a lot of work is required with the butt bone to give it some resemblance of volume.
