|| I have no idea how to write good backstories. Bear with me. ||
Up until they decided to move from their town to another, he lived a normal, fruitful life with friends. He was your average active, sweet, sometimes shy little boy. It was a town where the others were used to the Durian smell, and some even liked it, and so they weren't ridiculed for being "the world's smelliest fruit". However, when his family saw a better job opportunity in a different town, they had to move, having to say goodbye to the luxury of actually having friends.
The town they moved into was not so accepting. In his new school, people avoided him, ridiculed him. He was constantly getting bullied. New student, different smell, new target. He tried his best to make friends, being the kind, happy boy he was, but it was no use. He grew sick and tired.
One day, he was being kicked around when, out of self defense, his body grew spikes on the area which he was being attacked from, which of course, badly injured the assaulter. He had no idea he could do this, considering the fact he never had a reason to use it. Something flipped inside him and with his pent up anger, began assailing his assailants. Not a skilled fighter in any means, but those spikes hurt. It was a mess by the time he was finished.
The next day, (mostly) everyone heard of what happened and people avoided him even more, but at least no one was gonna mess with him. He was suspended for quite a long time, almost facing charges against him, but it's not like he killed anyone. Coming back to school, he couldn't care less about what anyone thought of him, he was done with everyone's shit. He's isolated and alone. However, when he sees someone getting bullied, he's definitely one to jump in. He doesn't want to see others going through what he had to. Still, no one seems to want to put in the effort of being friends with him: one, he dismisses people easily; two, people are scared he might just go off.

✰ Smells exactly like the fruit - whether it's bad or not depends on the person (I think Durian smells amazing sdkajf so I don't understand)
✰ There are natural spikes on his body that he cannot retract
