This doesn't really have much to do with anything. It's actually the result of a conversation I had with a friend a while ago about Shinigami needing their glasses.

Basically, the theory was that Shinigami see in multiple dimensions and the glasses help to correct for that. This would probably be similar to how they see normally. (Unless you're Will, in which case the distortion would be much worse.)

I thought this was a good illustration of that.
