Description Well, school's officially out and what better way to get back in the groove than some new frontiers to travel?! This is my first attempt at the Hi-Fi coloring process and I must say I'm quite proud of how it turned out! I know I need more practice, but I can't wait for the next one!

This tutorial is one of many projects provided by Brian Miller in "Master Digital Color," a how-to guide to digital painting, and this specific art was created by Dave Bryant.

Thank you! That picture was fun to color but a challenge because of the fading highlight brushstrokes!

Great job dude! I saw this and thought it was the actual image from the tutorial from the thumb, so thats a good sign

The gold scarb look great man, it really help the bg with the colour holds too. All the shines look good (better than I do em you bugger haha), and the only thing I can see that needs work, that I know personally comes with the practice is the rendering on the body (its got potential, but I think you could work it a bit more. Highlights and maybe a focus on a more pronounced secondary/rim light to push bits back and pop him off the bg) and some of the cuts... which is a style thing and takes a while till the confidence shows with them (I've only just started to like mine, its taken a looong time to feel good about them).

Overall though I fully salute this, picked up alot from that tutorial didn't you? I wish I'd found it way back then, would have saved a million hours of experimenting and googling ;D

Wow, am I happy to get such a thorough inspection from an inspirational source! This has made my day! Thank you very much for the compliments and advice, I was pretty happy with how it turned out and this seals it. I definitely know what you mean about cuts being a learned ability, some of them were really difficult to maneuver with, but I'll get it yet! I think the only issues I had with it were the dual lighting on the boots and the fading on his forward arm. The metal on the scarab itself could be tweaked in some spots too, but that's all in due time! Thanks again for your advice, it means a LOT to me!

No problem man, I hate giving crits as I think I sound like a pompous know it all (even though I know next to nothing haha!)

Cant wait to see the next one you bust out

I know what you mean there, criticism is hard to do nicely, but you're pretty good at it so I wouldn't worry I did end up posting the next picture I completed yesterday if you're interested!

You colored this? Holy crap, that's good. I didn't see your style of drawing so I thought you were adding a comic page you liked or something. Great work~!

Thanks dude! I'm actually pretty impressed myself! It took a while to learn how to use the brush strokes effectively but I'd say it was worth it. My favorite part was doing the metal on the scarab in the background! It's surprisingly easy...

You suck since this was like practice. You'll only improve more now.

That's the plan~! I plan on being a complete comic team ...except for inking ...I'll let someone else do that!

Then when you get to be Stan Lee's level of prestige you can just have them do all the work and run around doing whatever you want.

Of course... Fringe is my fave tv show at the mo (I love Anna Torv too, sooo fine)

Waiting for the next ep is soooo long though, but glad 'good' Olivia is back at last

radicalthunder In reply to spidermanfan2099 [2010-12-22 00:34:21 +0000 UTC]

I agree, the alternate Olivia was kind of...loose. It was getting old when they were "alternating" between universes but I'm glad that they ended it after 6 episodes. I also enjoyed having Raspy (Charlie Francis) back. That's the name my friends and I gave him before we learned his real one and it stuck! I miss other Broyles now though

Broyles is Broyles, no matter what universe Such a rad character, you just know he's 100% good guy. Great to have Francis back yeah, always been a fan of the actor from when I first saw him in Oz

That's cool! I knew he was in it, but I never watched Oz. I'm pretty sure I had seen him in Band of Brothers before watching Fringe cuz he looked familiar to me. I've also read that now that Olivia is back we're not going to switch between universes (atleast for a while), so I wonder how long it'll be before they're in the story again...
