Woot...first go at writing a critique. When I first saw the thumbnail for this, I went WOW...it is visually striking contrast between Hartman's black coat and the orange flames. The glow of the fire light reflects very naturally off nearby objects and also throws realistic looking embers in the same direction as the flames (for the outdoor fire on the left).

As an academic who studies fire behaviour, I am pleased to see that Hartman's coat is billowing despite the material being depicted as being heavy and fairly rigid in earlier works. Fire generates upwards convective drafts that create enough wind to lift substantial materials if intense enough.

I do not know that character as well as I should and therefore can't comment how original he is in that respect, but you've had a track record of extensively and pictorially depicting the character's pre-game history - which is not commonly done for TF2 and I feel is needed.

Hartman's smirk, if that is what it is, and the title, make me curious to find out more, hence I gave 4.5 stars for vision, but its not as obvious in the smaller thumbnail and is not part of what draws a person into the picture to begin with.

My only negative comment here is that I can't tell what the grey but conspicuous objects on the road are.

You are right, it is a good sketch. It is an AMAZING sketch. Everything about this is great: the fire, the shadowing, the smile on his face...do love.
