Description
Tom woke slowly to the sun shining brightly through his blinds on his window. He has woken from the most pleasant dream. He and Liam had been walking down a sunlit path toward a tiny wooden cabin built for two, holding hands but the best part by far was Tom had felt clean; free of drugs and the feel of the city that was ever intoxicating.
Tom's phone sang out the theme song to Doctor Who, it was a text from Sean that said "Feeling better now?"
"Very, thanks Sean," Tom typed swiftly before sending it he added, "You can't imagine how thankful I truthfully am."
Sean didn't reply.
Tom stood, stretched and then sauntered to his closet. He pulled out a pair of baggy jeans and an old plain black tee shirt and pulled them on quickly. Tom hid away what he had bought from Sean in his sock drawer and rubbed his nose quickly before slipping his feet into some socks and shoes and heading out of the flat.
Tom walked down the street with his hands jammed into his pockets, body fighting off the cold but his heart radiating with the thought of Liam. He walked past a familiar face and that familiar face turned back and yelled to him to stop.
"Tom!" Charlie shouted doubling back.
"Charlie!" Tom grinned cheerfully.
"I need to talk to you, can I walk with you?" The younger questioned.
"Yeah, but weren't you going somewhere…?" Tom asked inviting his friend along.
"I was going to come see you…" Charlie trailed.
"Oh…" Tom grinned brighter. "Perfect timing then! I'm going to get Liam some flowers."
"Oh?" Charlie raised an eyebrow as he walked next to his tall, pale friend.
"What about it? A caring, loving boyfriend can't get his loved one some flowers?" Tom asked semi-playfully, shaking off the thought that Liam would've told Charlie or Alex about what had really happened.
"Well, it's just that when we had band practice Liam screamed when Alex and I hugged him because he 'fell down the stairs' in his flat the other day…." Charlie put air quotes around the fell-down-the-stairs bit.
Tom's brain started whirring, and then it clicked play along his mind told him. "Yeah he did. When he came to answer the door to let me he tripped. The poor clumsy boy fell down all those stairs… I came in and cleaned him up."
"Mhmm..." Charlie said looking at his friend. "Why aren't you wearing a jacket? It's freezing out…"
"I guess I didn't notice…" Tom answered truthfully.
"You didn't notice that it is 10 degrees out?"
Tom shook his head and then stopped looking up at the flower shop he visited too often to get apology flowers. He pushed open the door and a bell tinkled lightly overhead. Charlie followed him in.
The old lady who was always there smiled at Tom. "Hello Tom. I'm assuming the usual?" she asked sweetly. Tom nodded as he half watched Charlie look around the small shop. She disappeared into the back of the shop and came back with a dozen white roses. "Here you go." Tom paid her and thanked her for the excellent service, as usual.
"Come on Charlie…. Unless you want to stay here all day," Tom beckoned Charlie out of the shop.
Charlie followed Tom out, "How often do you go there?"
"Two to four times a month," Tom answered shortly, carrying the pure white roses.
"Just for flowers for Liam?" Charlie inquired falling a bit behind Tom.
"Yeah… I like to make sure Liam knows I love him," Tom answered, walking briskly down the street. He was getting colder now. "You should go home Charlie. I need to talk to Liam."
"Oh all right," Charlie sighed. "See you later…"
Tom smiled at Charlie and gave him a friendly hug before heading to Liam's flat.
By now Tom was shivering and anxious to get inside. When he arrived at the door, he hid the flowers behind his back and knocked; no one answered the first time, so he knocked again and rang the doorbell. He heard footsteps behind the door and cringed when the door was flung open in an angry frenzy and he was faced with a very pissed off looking Liam. When Liam realized it was Tom, his expression immediately softened and he sniffled a bit. Liam's eyes and nose were red and his cheeks were glistening with tears in the light. His cuts and bruises were beginning to show beneath the disappeared cover-up.

"Liam, darling, what's wrong?" Tom asked desperately concerned.

"Nothing, Tom. I just don't feel very well," Liam replied halfheartedly.

"Can I come in, love? I've got something for you," Tom asked. Liam hesitated and then stepped to the side to allow Tom to shuffle in while trying to keep the flowers hidden. He pulled the flowers from behind his back exclaiming, "Ta-daaa!" and displaying the roses under Liam's nose to smell. Liam took a long deep breathe, closing his eyes and smiling peacefully. He loved them, as usual.

"Tom they're beautiful," he whispered in awe and hugged the roses to his chest. "Ow, ow. Thorns! Thorns! I'm such an idiot," he whispered in his adorable Scottish accent and Tom giggled kissing Liam's forehead.

"But you're my idiot," he whispered back and reached out to hold one of Liam's hands. "Mine, and all mine."
