Description

Hey all! It's been AGES since I've submitted something here on DeviantArt! Won't get into personal stuff here (will probably write some kind of update on my main page), but I'm still kickin'.

I finally got the motivation to actually sit down and get some drawing done. The reason being the subjects of this pic - my girls here. When I'm not dealing with all the normal busy adulting stuff, gaming has always been a fall back. Now, I'm incredibly stubborn when it comes to sticking with things I like, and games are no exception. I will play the same assortment of favorites over and over and they never get old to me. Presented here are my own main characters for some of my favorite games of all time. I've spent hundreds of hours with each of them (in game sessions), so it shouldn't be surprising that I've come to be quite attached to the stories and personalities I built for and with them.

This drawing is a bit wide for online viewing, since it's actually a combination of all the individual characters whom I'd drawn separately. I'm going to upload each character on their own, since I did put a lot of detail into each of them and some of it's lost in this collage. Links will be below with each character description. Also, as a kind of reference for anyone curious, I will also upload a picture featuring an assortment of screencaps from my actual in game characters. I tried (for the most part, some went off the rails, lol) to represent them accurately and it's a neat comparison. Check it out here: Character reference sheet

So, to break it down, from left to right:

Nyx Khanri - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords

Nyx is my Jedi Exile. If you've seen any of my artwork, you'll have seen some of her before. She and Revan take up most of my gallery. Nyx is a Jedi guardian; her prowess is in lightsaber combat and she primarily wields a viridian bladed doublesaber. She's very casual and tomboyish, and is shown here dressed as the Jedi General she was during the Mandalorian Wars.

Revanche (Revan) Ordo - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Revan is shown here in her classic Sith robes, about to pull on her hood. As my version of her, she was born a Mandalorian on the planet Concord Dawn to the Ordo clan. Her mother was Canderous' sister, and the original owner of Revan's famous Mandalorian mask. Though her parents had planned on training her for the role of next Mandalore, her fate changed when Jedi Master Arren Kae (later known as Kreia) took Revanche to be trained in the Jedi order.

Rhiannon Løvenskiold - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

If her surname doesn't make it obvious enough, my Dragonborn is a Nord (though the headcanon I wrote for her makes her half Nord on her father's side, and half Imperial on her mother's). Rhiannon was born in Cyrodiil. Her Nord father came from Skyrim to the Empire seeking glory and eventually became arena champion. There he met Rhiannon's mother, daughter to a fairly well-off family of blacksmiths and merchants. In her youth, her parents decided to leave Cyrodiil for a new life of their own in Skyrim. They only made it to the outskirts before falling prey to attack. Rhiannon's mother was killed; she and her father barely made it to the nearest small village where they ended up staying. Far away from the city, Rhiannon was forced to learn how to take care of herself, her father, and her new home.

I drew her wearing a slightly modified version of Ebony armor and a frayed hooded mantle. She's carrying my favorite shield (and probably my most used item in game) - Spellbreaker. The sword is a generic dragonbone sword. She's blind in her right eye, and has two lip ring piercings.

Rin Shepard - Mass Effect (1, 2, & 3)

Rin is a ruthless, earth-born soldier. She wavers a bit between paragon and renegade throughout the series, staying relatively in the middle. In the first game, she's just come into her own, so she sticks more to her alliance training and tends to be more diplomatic and heroic. But after becoming a Spectre and learning the apocalyptic fate awaiting the galaxy - a fate no one listens to or believes - she becomes a bit more jaded. And then she dies. So after being rebuilt by Cerberus, she becomes a lot more ok with acting like a renegade. Despite getting sadistic chuckles from pushing people out windows and whatnot, she never loses sight of the goal. She says screw you to the Illusive Man after he tells her to hand over the corpse of a human-reaper full of people juice, and returns to Earth to meet judgement at the hands of the Alliance. I would say in comparison she's a lot like the Major from Ghost in the Shell (looks and behavior).

In my drawing of her here, she's wearing a mish-mash of armor pieces - Serrice Council chest and shoulders, Hahne-Kedar arms, and N7 greaves. Her right arm is wrapped around her N7 rebreather helmet, and she's holding my all-time favorite and most used gun in her left - the M-15 Vindicator Assault Rifle.

Ramsey Ryder - Mass Effect Andromeda

I actually enjoyed Andromeda quite a bit. And although the facial designs and animations were pretty bad a lot of the time (until they sorta fixed some of it), I was able to make a Ryder that I liked and connected with through the game. She's a fun counterpart to Shepard. While Shep is a well-decorated, renown professional... an N7 soldier and first human Spectre, Ryder is a young, scrappy, awkward mess with more bravado than experience. And in a way, that's why I identify with her - she's not a super-woman or a mary sue. She's kind of a loser. And my version of her is especially so, since after graduating the Grissom Academy and joining the Alliance she decides to follow her father's footsteps and become an N7, only to fail multiple times. Her final failure results in her sustaining injuries requiring nearly a year of physical therapy. Once she recovers, she joins the Peacekeepers and helps protect discovered Prothean dig sites. But her father's work in AI development leads to Alec, Ramsey, and Scott all being dishonorably discharged from the Alliance.

My Ryder here is wearing the iconic Pathfinder armor her father wears. She has my second favorite gun from the series strapped across her shoulder - the Black Widow sniper rifle. And she's showing off some biotic power with her left hand.

Reece Hewitt - Fallout 4

Here's a character that really starts out as a blank slate. All we know is that the female sole survivor is a mother, has a law degree (and was probably practicing law as a career somewhere in Boston prior to moving to the suburbs), and has a husband Nate who was drafted into the war (or was a career soldier? I'm not sure). While my character Reece here looks anything but what you'd normally expect of a Fallout character, she actually looks exactly like that in my game thanks to lots of sweet mods. And her story doesn't vary much from most others I'm sure - becoming the baddest mother the commonwealth has ever seen! Reece is wearing a Red Rocket t-shirt under a Brotherhood styled bomber jacket, Raider armor pieces on her legs, pipboy with a cracked screen, and a slaughterdog army helmet with horns jutting out of it. She smokes (which is not as bad as all the other crazy drugs in the wastes!), and is carrying a weapon I love - the Shishkebob sword.

Marian Hawke - Dragon Age 2

Hawke is the only one who is her default, canon self. Why you ask? No reason to change perfection imo. I absolutely love Hawke as is. If there's anything I'd change, it'd just be to make her hair a little longer and add some scars as time progresses. Here, she's in her iconic mage champion armor wielding the staff of parthalan. If you've seen my DA2 comic, you've seen her walk before - I semi reused her legs, but totally redid and detailed up the rest of her.

Riley Theirin-Cousland - Dragon Age Origins

As her names suggests, Riley is a human noble who eventually marries Alistair and becomes queen of Ferelden (as well as hero of Ferelden and Warden-Commander of the Ferelden Grey Wardens). I played all the different races, classes, and origins in DA, but for the end result the Cousland origin will always be my favorite and main. She is a warrior, but my favorite combat style was dual-wielding longswords. Ironically you're able to do so as a warrior in the first game, but not the following two. Here she's just holding one sword, Starfang. She was the first character I drew in this marathon, and one of the toughest to design (other than Shar) since I didn't want to draw her in a generic armor set. Her right arm has started to succumb to the blight, so it's wrapped in bandages and covered in darkspawn armor plates. She has a chest armor plate over grey warden cloth intertwined with chain mail, patchwork pants, fur lined back, left shoulder and left bracer, heavy boots, and a warden shawl wrapped around her waist. Her hair has grown out a bit and has some braids. She's definitely one of the characters who has gone through the most, and it's hardened her quite a bit.

Sharnae Adaar - Dragon Age Inquisition

Shar (as she prefers to be called) is my female rogue inquisitor, and the character I probably took the most liberties with. Her in game version is actually Lavellan - a dalish elf, since I was able to get her looking most like how I wanted that way. But in my head-cannon for her, she's a half-breed - half Qunari from her Tal-Vashoth mother, and half Elf from her swarthy pirate elf father. And even though her father was an elf, he was not a Lavellan (not dalish therefore not part of their clan) so she took the last name Adaar later in life as an ironic sort of insult. Her parents were outcasts, and being a hybrid herself makes her unable to fit in anywhere, often being referred to as a horned knife-eared freak. Sharnae grew up on the seas of Rivain living the life of a pirate and smuggler with her parents. When their ship gets caught in a storm sending them far off course, they sail too close to Seheron and are pursued by a Qunari dreadnaught. It's cannons destroy the ship and crew, but Shar is taken captive and brought to Par Vollen to be "re-educated" into the Qun. It doesn't work and she ends up as slave labor in their mines. She eventually learns she is mining the minerals used in Gaatlok - blackpowder (basically gunpowder). She uses it to make an explosive escape, and manages to smuggle herself to Antiva. She eventually works her way as a skilled crewman through the Felicisima Armada and earns the notice of the Antivan princes. When she makes the trip to Haven at the start of Inquisition, they are who she is representing, the arguable true rulers of Antiva rather than the crown.

Adaar, which means weapon or "fire-thrower" is a title she bestows upon herself after escaping the Qunari with the priceless knowledge of how to make blackpowder. Shar uses what she learned to make her own custom weapon which she calls a hand-cannon (cannon, since in Thedas cannons exist and the term gun does not yet). It's basically a flint-lock musket with a bayonet strapped to the front, and a crossbow built into the top. She selfishly and cautiously hoards the weapon and her knowledge to herself, and only fires the actual gun part of her weapon in rare situations. Far more often she uses the crossbow, or knives. Shar was the last character I drew, and designing her post-inquisition garb and fancy weapon took a while. She even has a claw-arm (similar to what Sera helps her build in the Trespasser epilogue) after losing her glowing left arm.

The Inquisitor (full drawing)

Phew! Well, that sums it all up. Thanks for reading this all if you did. I hope you like these gals as much as I do. Again, they will all be uploaded separately as well, with even more exhaustive info on them. I will probably take a little break from drawing but I'm hoping it'll be more like days-weeks, rather than years. I've still got plenty of more ideas to come.
