It was really tricky to work with no lines, and adapting the old tuft style for this pic since I like to do fluffy tufts.

I know what you mean, it's a bit of an adjustment but you'll get used to it. If you wanna know a little trick, it helps to put the initial sketch layer on top of the others and set it to a low opacity. You could also make an outline, fill it in, delete the outline and make whatever adjustments that are needed.
