It's actually surprising to me how well these characters fit into the roles. It's as if it was by design (which it could be). Do the zodiac and the tarot have some relation?

Usually, the Fool card has an animal following the titular person, as a symbol of the more "animal" parts of him. The closest we have in Homestuck is Bec, of course.
Yes, it breaks canon, but it seems symbology is more important here.
