I love not just the handling and layering of the paint, but the control of it all. It's great to get such control with such energy. I also really like the lightness of the shadows, and the way the simple but powerful background enhances the portrait. Working from a model is usually more fun than from photos, if one is available.

hey good work on this one... the texture and many diferent planes you made is what makes this a strong peice... it reminds me of the artist Lucian Freud... you should check him out... i found this peice browsing google for you, it has a very striking resemblance to what you have painted... [link]

Beautiful. Your gallery is gorgeous, and this piece is brilliant. I love the movement and the life of your brushstrokes. I'm featuring this on my "22 + 7 Must See Deviations Edition VIII" journal, alongside 28 other deviations. Please swing by and support the other artists.

I really hope your going to art school, or are already there, because your portraits are unreal. They are amazing. The face its self in this piece is wonderful, I wouldn't change a thing, but the color you chose for the background is a little odd, but still it works. Props to you.

I actually graduated from the University of Central Fl., which I am starting to realize had an excellent program, none of the classes I take at the schools where I live now are on the same level. I am still hoping to be able to work out grad school at some piont though, I just have to find some way out of this town.

its real awesome, the styule you put into this, lol ive never seen before which makes it all the better. the thing that really stands out (and i thionk makes the picture) is that subtle line of shadow along on the (his) left side of the face. if youre goin for total realism (whic h you're not from what i can tell), you may want to switch up some of the angles of the face - mainly - the cheekbones. but thats just being nitpicky. in terms of the style itself, i have to commend you that youve used mixed media on this one. i myself have to resolve my issues with mixed media (lol im too afraid), but with that aside, the composition and the lighting looks good along with those 2 solid gray rectanges at the back of his head. i really really like what you did with the jawline. great work here, must save it

Its not like the photograph - but I think the distortion is kinda hip. Like those caracatures you see in Rolling Stone.

The face communicates a tough-guy attitude. The ambiguous background (a bridge? a building?) keeps the focus on the face.

quite good
i like your technique
although the perspective is a little off (the chin/jaw)

very nice indeed! a few white spatters that might be a little strong on the bottom right of his jaw and the lock of hair up on top but other than that its pretty freaking good! i am by no means good at all with this kind of traditional art so take my suggestion with a grain of salt i guess, hehe the background cross is well done, simplicity works! i think you captured your ideas very well, but as a perfectionist myself i can totally relate to trying to "really finish" it
