the MD/A-22 (medium drop ship/aggressor) has been the staple of all fast transport in and out of planets and Ring worlds. Fast enough (mach 1.2) to escape most anti air defenses and equipped with an Iron filling shield for re-entry the MD-22 has earned itself a 87.4% landing success rate.The MD/A-22 is the multi role variant of the MD-22. Capable of lifting 40 troops, 2 light vehicles or 1 heavy one or 3 supply crates (which can hold up to 10 troops each if necessary.
Like most industrial aircraft the MD-22 runs on standard Hydrocarbon fuel, or an fuel air mix for oxygen free environments.

Sort of, it designed to land troops from orbiting space craft (but it must maneuver in vacuum by using disposable rocket motors which are fixed to hard points on the wing.). It can return to orbit, but it likewise needs the assistance of external fuel tanks and similar disposable rocket motors.
