Hello Diana, on the occasion of my second "dA Birthday" I've featured a number of portraits and selfportraits of the admired artists on my watchlist, and yours is one of them. I hope you like it! [link]

Nda...

So true. I admit, I also like to own, but really - NOT the big and unnecessary stuff. Most expensive things and status symbols only cause additional worries and obligations in life.

Thanks for the comment!

Corvidae65 In reply to rafinerija [2010-03-14 07:54:53 +0000 UTC]

Very true I guess i'm not the typical American 'cuz i don't own a lot of big stuff (boat, big new car, huge house,etc...)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rafinerija In reply to Corvidae65 [2010-03-14 10:28:06 +0000 UTC]

I didn't know typical Americans owned all these things.

When I mentioned it, I aimed more at our noveau riche, who, thanks to our "wild capitalism" (as we call it here literally - and mockingly) got wealthy by dishonest means like low payments for their employees, or not paying them at all, defalcation, avoiding taxes, criminal etc. ... And the law often supports some unfair businesses, but also - many of these people have connections with the authorities.

It's all greed. But common people pay for it, unfortunately.

Well, the banks do-- I was a little confused--I thought you said 'consumersim' instead of capitolism'

Capitalism works the same way there that it does here Most of the rich anywhere in the world got rich by doing exactly what you've described. For the most part it's legal I guess this is how revolutions get started

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rafinerija In reply to Corvidae65 [2010-03-14 10:44:33 +0000 UTC]

The banks are most evil of them all. And nowadays can't do without them. Unless you go to the woods or country and grow your own food and need nothing more. ...

Revolutions are a great solution, yes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Corvidae65 In reply to rafinerija [2010-03-14 10:52:02 +0000 UTC]

Yup--I agree with that Diana. I've spent several years getting out from under the banks and now the only debt I have is a bit on a credit card () and my house mortgage. My wife and I live pretty simply and we found that there are a lot of things we just don't miss like new cars, vacations and on and on. my wifes car is 8 years old and mine is 12 years old

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rafinerija In reply to Corvidae65 [2010-03-14 11:20:52 +0000 UTC]

A colleague of mine has a BMW from 1990, and the car is just great! She says they had it repaired a couple of times, but nothing big.

Luckily, I "owe" the bank just a small amount of money, especially when compared to my friends who took loans to buy appartments.
Yes, I sometimes feel we work for the banks.
