Sketch 9 - Yzzaxai forI had no information on what the colour of her wings is and later - had no opportunity to ask (as well as no internet) >___< So forgive me such "interpretation" and "lazy" markings version (and some anatomical - and not only - glitches as well, ahem)

This is absolutly gorgeous
Her markings, her pose, her wings, everything is amazing. I especially love that expression -- it's perfect. And her fiery hair!
I love how her body curls, it's so dynamic! And you are so close with the wings, it's not even funny. It's just like that, but all red. Actually, the orange is so cool, I think it should be orange from now on. Yes D8

And what I must say is that with this comment and your note, of course, I could finally sigh with relief *O* Yzzaxai was probably one of the most tough to get drawn creatures out of ALL beasts I had to draw - and I wasn't sure at all if I've pulled everything right .__.

Very interesting design, and Nagas/Lamias have always been sort of a pet peeve of mine, I always have to sit back and wonder just why they have whatever anatomy they're depicted with, and almost always want to change it.
Just a few examples, I wonder: Why does she have hips? Does she have a humanoid rib cage or something more serpentine? How about shoulder muscles/bones or arm pits for her extra arms and wings? And more specific to this design, is she suppsoed to be scaley, furry, or have smooth/leathery skin?
There's a few things you can think about if you're interested in a critique on the design.

First of all I'd like to thank you for such a comment - I myself enjoy answering interesting questions. But unfortunately, in this current case descussion is somewhat useless, as the character doesn't belong to me and it is not I, who've designed it, but ... From what we see in the reference to the creature, she has rather humanoid rib cage and, I suppose, she is furry. I am not sure though, textures are not seen there. Anyway, about this current character you should ask the creator herself )

Well, it is your interpretation of the character, so in this image it's your knowlege of the anatomy which counts right? Although I wouldn't mind asking both of you about it. And you're welcome for the comment, I tried to put a bit of thought into it for you. *smiles*

Sorry for butting in -- but if you want to know, I actually have her designed to this degree, though it's hard to describe without visiual aide xD
Yzzaxai is very thinly furred from her head to each of her elbows, and just below her ribcage. From there it gives way to very fine scales.
She does have a pelvis. Her body is almost an extension of her ribcage from the back; unlike with humans, her spine continues to have short 'ribs' along the length of her lower back, which become longer again after her pelivis. Her whole body is constructed in this manner until 2/3 of the way down, where the ribs become smaller again and the vertebre are more tail-like.
As for her arms, they are all attatched by means of 'shoulders'. She has separate shoulder blades for each arm. Her back is quite mutated-looking xD They also each have '

Sounds very well thought out, I'd love to see some more close up detail work on a design like this, like how the triceps for the lower arms attach to the rib cage, for instance. Seems like she should be a little bit bulkier in the chest by your description, with all those muscles for arms and wings.
Out of curiosity, why did you decide to transition furr to scales, instead of going with one or the other? I personally feel chimeric creatures look better when they come together seamlessly, instead of 'transitioning' parts. But that's just personal prefference.

I'm considering making her completely scaly or even leather-skinned; but I have her furred for now because of her cat's head. Fuzzy ears always have appealed to me a little more. However, she will probably become completely furless as I develop her

You're welcome, it'd definately be interesting to see how it all came together in a final design if you went with all scales, or all fur. Might have to tweak the ears or something, to make it work, right?

Yup, I imagine they'd be like a sphinx's. Perhaps they would have a fringe on the edges, to maintain their scruffy shape

This is such an intense picture! I love how you did the fire! Your use of markers is increidble here. The expression and use of the snake-like body is beautiful. And all of those hands came out wonderfully. This is very dynamic and the design is stunning

I think the beast is gorgeus, she's just too wrathful and evil looking, makes me shiver and want to hide behind a rock! You've portrayed it in a masterful way, growing up and making the feeling of ultimate power. Also your colouring is just gorgues to look, no sketch i've seen lately is as good as this one
