I was once the first at work to own one. I was quite charmed by the idea of a computing device that you can literally push into a book shelf once you're done with it! Plus everything in a laptop is connected with everything else, which is great, because what I really hate (far more even than glossy screens) are cables! I'm not sure how the glossy screen got in though. If your desk happens to be right next to a sunny window, they're the most impractical thing imaginable. I often have to push back the screen into a crazy angle, just to be able to see anything, like with dA photographers who like to post gloomy pictures with lots of black in them
