Description I am glad to be back.  I've actually been out shooting...when I remember.  Things are "interesting" every single day...and that's a good thing.
I hope you all are well.

That is one jaunty feller! We have green woodpeckers in the neighborhood, I once saw one sitting on a lawn and I though it was some escaped tropical bird at first. They're spectacular birds, those woodpeckers, if you get to see them from up close, which unfortunately over here is almost never. Was this your lucky day or is this a common sight where you live?

I see them nearly every day in the winter, less frequently the rest of the year, probably becasue of the dense foliage around here.  They are "relatively" common around here.  They usually are only found where there are relatively mature forests.  This bird is a male and about the size of a crow.  It's a big bird.  Green woodpeckers?  Never seen anything like that.  Interesting.

images.on-this.website/4752_20… None of the photos I've seen (many a photographer has captured it sitting on a lawn, where it appears to feel quite comfortable) do a real-life one any justice. This crappy photo probably captures the strikingness of its colors best: www.creamygoodness.co.uk/Image… . It really does look like some bird from a tropical rain forest. I saw a honey buzzard from up really close just an hour ago: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia… . It's a bird of prey that specializes in digging up bee's and wasp's nests and devouring the offspring. The wonders of the woods around the corner..
