Description

Magic is an established phenomenon in Veil, but has some distinct limits - it is more akin to physical forces such as gravity or electromagnetism than what conventional literature has warped it into. Getting magic to do something requires energy, and a means to control that energy, for it possesses no will or intelligence of its own. Functionally, the core impact of this is that magic is something that must be actively used by a skilled practioner, with no such concept as an enchanted object.

So, with magic being quite specialised and restricted, naturally mundane technology ends up relied on for many things. However, Veil society is comparatively small (with ~250,000 Veiled in Great Britain as of 2018, compared to an overall population of 65 million), and efficient production of vehicles, clothing or computing equipment is not practical on such a small scale. As such, Veil instead imports in these things through various fronts.

However, this presents a fundamental economic problem; importing large values of items means large amounts of money flowing out of Veil, far more than the available economic growth, which would lead to the economy cripping itself. As such, Veil is constantly under pressure to find viable exportable goods, services or rights to offset this outgoing flow.

To some extent, this is often simply labour; the largest proportion of Veil's inhabitants are witches or humans who are sufficiently closely tied to Veil that they are authorised to know of its existence. Being entirely indistinguishable from normal humans, many do indeed work for corporations outside Veil.

But the lion's share of these exports is usually patents; while magic does have its limits, it has the potential to streamline many developments into fields such as medicine and metallurgy, techniques that large amounts of skill and experience is put into reverse-engineering such that it can be achieved with mundane methods that can be sold to the wider world.

Of course, naturally this is not the sum of Veil's economy - it does itself have a lot of internal economic factors, including manufacture of items that do not exist in the wider world.

Fracturing Veil

It is 2018.

The United Kingdom is still arguing over Brexit, Vladimir Putin has been re-elected for his fourth term as Russian president, and a disillusioned AI super-soldier is failing to live a normal life.

After witnessing vampires attack a police officer she'd only just met, the pair are thrown into a world hidden from mortal eyes. Recruited by "Cerberus", they find themselves working alongside a sarcastic half-dragon, a distant arachne sorceress, and other paranormal denizens in order to try to maintain a 500-year ceasefire.

This is the Fracturing Veil.

Notes:
From an out of character point of view, this is also one of the tests I did of some morphs I've created to help simulate dForce clothing to fit the centaur figures. In this case, specifically the dress, which was not originally designed for the centaurs. Once I've finished all my testing, expect to see uploaded here as a freebie at some point in the not too distant future.

(Note that the leggingsare custom, and I need to reach a conclusion about how and if I release those. The front socks and the shoes were originally made for Daz Horse 2, but can be fitted to the centaurs relatively easily, for which I may at some point make an auto-fit clone).
