Description Happy New Year everybody! And 2017 hasn’t been a bad year for me. I mean, it hasn’t been perfect, with extreme exam stress and uni drama sometimes getting a bit much. But all in all, it’s had some great moments. The trip to Morocco and getting to see the fossil sites there is a highlight, especially since it got me credited in the paper describing Xericeps. I’ve caught up on some great shows, like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Bojack Horseman and Breaking Bad (bout time too). I’ve passed my driving test and I’ve had my first job (for about a week, but still). And of course, this year has been great in the documentary department, with the utterly fantastic Blue Planet II being the most watched program of the year. So, like Planet Earth II before it ( rahonavis70m.deviantart.com/ar…), I’ve drawn a collage of some of the series’ best moments to celebrate this brilliant series. This was actually suggested by , but I was already planning on doing this.

One Ocean - from this episode, I had to pick the giant trevally catching terns in mid-flight. Also, the beautiful sight of the mobula rays swimming through bioluminescent plankton, set to a truly beautiful score ( youtu.be/-7Xk6u3pWs8). And, of course, frickin’ OrcaCam!!! Seeing the herring run from the POV of an orca took my breath away!

The Deep - I could’ve picked anything from this episode, but tried to go for variety. For the awesome factor, we have the sixgill sharks feeding on and fighting over the sperm whale carcass. For the creepy factor, we have the cutthroat eel in the brine pool suffering from toxic shock. And for the wonder factor, we have the snailfish found some five miles down.

Coral Reefs - the bobbit worm was an obvious choice. And I had to include the grouper and octopus cooperatively hunting, because that was awesome and unexpected.

Big Blue - gotta have a baitball, and some dolphins. So I included the baitball of lanternfish being hunted by spinner dolphins, tuna, mobula rays and sailfish. I also included the captivating Portuguese man-o-war. And of course, the tragic pilot whales, which I think broke everyones’ hearts.

Green Seas - the octopus evading pyjama sharks was incredible, particularly using the never before seen method of covering itself in shells. And then of course, there’s the zebra mantis shrimp, because frickin’ mantis shrimp!!!

Coasts - the Galápagos sea lions catching tuna has to be seen to be believed. And the Sally lightfoot crabs jumping across rocks and evading a moray eel and an octopus is probably the closest thing Blue Planet II has to the iguana chase.

Our Blue Planet - although he could easily represent the first episode, I included ‘Percy the Persistent’ tuskfish for this episode, with the bleaching of the reef he lives on and the very coral he uses to crack open shells upon representing the damage we are doing to the oceans. And then the baby leatherback turtle in David Attenboroughs’ hand to represent the work people are putting in to protect the oceans and their wildlife, and the hope for the future.

Of course, I could’ve included so much more, like the walruses, the Kobudai, The Humboldt squid, the sperm whales, the albatross, the whale sharks, etc. but there was only so much space.

Happy 2018 guys! Let’s hope it’s a good one.

What’s more depressing: that pilot whale or the baby turtles from PEII?

(Imho it’s the turtles)

Hmm tough one. In all fairness, the turtles were rescued after filming, while that baby whale was definitely dead (of course, what From is another matter...)

Another candidate:

The sperm whale eating a plastic bucket in the last episode.

Yep, that really summed up the problems our oceans face.

My question is; how on earth did they get that bucket away from the whale?

Kobudai and Humboldt squid deserve a place IMHO, but I actually agree with all of these.

I know, I wish I had more space. Though there is a small patch of space between the trevally and the pilot whale...

God I can't wait to watch this. I was more excited for this than Planet Earth 2. I hope there's a Frozen Planet 2 too.

You’ll love it! I was so excited for it and completely blown away in the end. Yeah, Frozen Planet 2 would be a good one. Part of me is still holding out for a Walking With Dinosaurs 2.

I’m hoping for The Hunt II.

Cover every single habitat covered in PEI/PEII and BPI/BPII.

I even have some sequence ideas for caves and islands....remember the centipede scene from Life in the Undergrowth? Film that with current technology. A population of giant centipedes that broke instinct and learnt to hunt bats, exciting stuff.

That would be good. Yeah I remember that. Or those social spiders that form a gigantic nest of webs.

That would be crazy to film w/modern methods.

I hope it comes out on Netflix, unfortunately I don't have BBC America. Oh yeah, i'm wishing day and night for an actual WWD sequel. Still got a sour taste in my mouth from that movie.

Talk about the purest form of disappointment.

It’ll probably take longer if it does, still not sure Planet Earth II is up yet.

Yeah, you and me both, shame that that is currently the most recent Walking With instalment, so the thing people are most likely to remember. Still, at least the arena show’s going on one last trip soon...

Yeah, Planet Earth II is up! you can gather that I binged the hell out of that lol. Yeah, the Arena show is the last light until one day hopefully we get a proper sequel.
