Description Day 16: Spinosauridae: River Dragons.

Brazilian spinosaur Irritator challengeri being a river dragon and catching a Cladocyclus gardneri, 112 million years ago, while a pair of Tropeognathus mesembrinus take flight after being spooked by the commotion. The dinosaurs continued to get weirder in the Cretaceous, and perhaps one of the strangest groups is the semi-aquatic increasingly crocodile-like spinosaurs, which took advantage of the waterways throughout the early and mid Cretaceous. The pterosaurs also became very successful at this time, with the 8 metre wingspan Tropeognathus being one of the largest flying animals to ever exist.
