Description When I look around at all the people in my life
I see many different faces that each tell a story.
There are people who have watched their children grow up,
people who have yet to watch their children grow up,
people who lead happy lives at the expenses of others,
and people who sacrifice their happiness for others.

All these people I know have taught me lessons,
simple small ones to important life changing ones.
But the most important one that I have learned in my life
was from a vast amount of individuals who have taught me,
and showed me, that the world is most certainly not in
black and white.

Humanity is the quality of being human
which is most often characterized by
kindness, mercy, and compassion.

Now the world itself is harsh and very real.
People nag others about their imperfections,
people are discriminated against for their gender and race,
some lose their cherished ones to violence,
and others find that very real world just plain unfair.

Everyone has had their share of hardships and misfortune,
and in this harsh reality,
we find it hard to spot the scarce commodities known as
acceptance, humility, and true love.

If we all paused for a moment and lowered our guns and fists,
and stopped thinking about how different we all are
and started looking at how we are the same...
then maybe, just maybe...
we would see a light at the end of this dark tunnel called hate.

We are all human beings.
We all breathe the same air,
walk on the same earth,
swim in the same oceans,
and wish upon the same stars.

We all cry tears of sorrow,
share moments of tenderness,
and live lives of hardship.

Is it not these qualities which make us human,
not in species, but in the heart?
And is it not these hardships that bring us together,
to support each other, to say "I'm there for you",
and to make each other stronger?

Every being on this planet deserves respect.
Their gender, sexuality, skin color, race, religion, culture,
all of this does not matter!

We are one of the same.

If you stripped our skin clean off you would see the same pink flesh
on every single black, brown, white, and yellow skinned person in the world.
And they would bleed the same warm red blood as I...

So I tell you this,
once you degrade someone for who they are,
you dehumanize yourself, your people, your country,
and human beings all over.
You make the standard quality of being human less human.

You kill every inch of that person inside, make them feel lower than dirt.
And what have you to be proud of?
Becoming a murderer?

That very same person you spat venomous words
of hate and disgust at had goals and dreams like you;
a family to love, days to live.
And they laid down in their bed last night,
hoping tomorrow would be a better day,
and all they have to show for it is
a beaten soul and a broken heart.

It is people like you who make me feel ashamed to be human!

We are human beings, not savages!
But then again, as you have showed me,
we truly have the potential to be both...

So when is it shall we regain the quality of being "human"?
