The game doesn't want them to be those stereotypes. It's fairly clear that there are clear inversions of things, especially with Aeris and Tifa's portrayals. Their outward appearances and inner natures are complete opposites. Cloud's arc likewise represents this, given the persona he presents himself as and who he actually is and coming to terms with that is part of his character arc.

Oh no, they changed Tifa's design, now she has a black sports bra underneath her white shirt. You're gonna have to redo all of these now!

Hahaha. You do realize that Yang is almost certainly inspired by Tifa? Melee fighting girl. Even their outfits have similarities(shorts/skirt, reinforced gloves for punching).
There was even a Deathbattle vid between the two of them. And Monty Oum made "Dead Fantasy".
How you didn't know who Tifa was is mind boggling.
