So we were escorting media around and like any typical soldier we all wandered outside with our cameras while they were inside interviewing the Cheif Of Police...And there were kids, these kids are everywhere...of course i discreetly began snapping a photo here and there, but eventually they figured out what i was doing and starting begging for photos. After each shot they would run up and gather around the camera to see the shot on the little preview screen.
Then they'd all laugh and smile and try to ask for single shots, or group shots in Albanian/Universal language
Like pointing at themselves and then the camera
Or making a clicking motion with their finger
Or they'd say "Photo-grAPH-IE"
Which i guess is the Albanian word for photograph.
My sergeant jumped in and started taking pics, he's awesome...but i got to capture the moment i wanted.
The girl on the left caught me sneaking up on their moment...
The little girl wouldn't stop crying for some reason...i think because her nose was running and she didn't know how to stop it
So much going on in this picture...
We hung out with those kids for about an hour...
Making these kids happy is awesome.

Awesome. Soldiers and cameras have been going steady for many generations.
My favorite photo ever of myself was taken by an Army photog we were flying around the Fort Richardson, AK area. We didn't know he had taken photos of us until the envelope showed up a week or so later in flight operations.

Awww... pictures like this remind me that we're all human in this world. These kids look so normal. They could easily be mistaken for Americans if we weren't told otherwise. It's always nice to see happy children.

You’re one of those 19 year old boys that think’s he has the world figured out…
So…what has my country ever done to you?? You just think that bad mouthing the USA is the cool thing to do at the moment…so you do…when you really have no understanding of the US...or the world in general. You see the world through your TV, or your computer monitor that your mom and dad probably paid for…and you suppose you have it all figured out.
As far as Kosovo is concerned…thousands of people were being murdered in the region. Serbian Soldiers were going into homes, and tearing apart the bodies of children as their parents watched, homes destroyed, woman raped. During all of this you were probably at home…sitting in front of a computer just like you are now. The US bombing forced the killing to stop…and we are still here because the people still refuse to fully get along.
Its not easy being a soldier and hearing people talk bad about my country…but I learn to let it go. I see first hand everyday the wonderful things we have done for the people of Kosovo, and for people all around the world.
So if you would…lets grow up a little bit.

In fact, I have been wondering what *Raidhyn is really there for, because I haven't even read about a bar brawl, let alone bombings and destruction. There are many sides to a story, young lady. Well, I could not agree more. However, I have found that scolding individual soldiers is very unproductive. Actually, until I found *Raidhyn 's account, I didn't know that the US still had military presence in Kosovo and I've wondered why ever since. I presumed it was to oversee the security as part of KFOR. Which may indeed be ironic for any innocent civilian, to be protected by the same people that bombed your country. The problem is that all this is politics, and a single soldier cannot be held fully responsible for things his country did. *Raidhyn did not personally bomb your country, just as he did not torture prisoners in Abu Graib. (Or I damn well hope for him that he did not) Aim your hatred at NATO or the US government if you must, that would be far more rational.
