Thank you very much. I have a soft spot for Collies myself as I owned one long ago. He was a tri-factored sable, but unfortunately I no longer have any pictures of him. His ears went all over the place, it was quite comical to watch them.

I wish you could've met Lance. He was a sable..but reminded me of a fox, there was so much red in his coat. He was a Shetland Sheepdog and dang, his ears did NOT wanna do the flop thing they were supposed to. So much personality! He pretty much 'raised' me and my brother. Nights, he would do his walk through of the house and check up on me and my brother. He was so sweet!

That reminds me of Cabal He had one ear prick up, and one ear that broke over about half way down his ear. There was absolutely no way that he would ever have been showable, but he was definitely a clown and fun to have around.

The current dog in house is Shadow. She's a lab mix, though we're not sure what the other half is. She looks lab but small. I told Mom that after she goes to Happy Hunting Grounds, I'd like to get another Sheltie. *laughs* they're just so darned cute and spunky. Either that or a Scottish Terrier but those are so difficult to housebreak.

*snickers* Between the Sheltie or the Scotty, I'd definitely go with the Sheltie myself. I love grooming but the stripping would be beyond me. he poor pup would be wondering what the heck was I doing to him and why they were cursed with an inexperienced groomer LOL

I had one in High school...my mom took him to the groomer and I told her I kinda liked him better all shaggy. He was like a cute teddy bear when he wasn't groomed.

Lance was fairly easy for Mom..though the brushing was a nightmare for a dog with a coat like his. Spring/Summer was the worst cause the undercoat came loose. She'd have enough hair to knit another dog. That was one dog who LOVED to be groomed. After she'd finished, he lick her cheek as if he was saying 'thank you'

lol That's when I'd be tempted to get one of the vacuum attachments to get rid of all the loose undercoat. I remember the fuzzy days and all the undercoat blowing across the yard. I can't wait to have another dog again.

I think if we'd tried that with Lance, he'd have freaked out. lol.

Raigekidan In reply to AislinKagami [2010-04-28 21:40:07 +0000 UTC]

Can't have that. Next time I have a long haired dog, I'm getting a forced air dryer. At least then maybe I can have a towel in the house that won't end up on a dog when I suddenly run out of dog towels after a bath. lol

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

AislinKagami In reply to Raigekidan [2010-04-28 21:41:30 +0000 UTC]

lol..that would work! We sorta let Lance drip dry after a bath. He'd get a once over with the towel, which was about all we could do before he'd make a break for it to roll over Mom's bed.

Raigekidan In reply to AislinKagami [2010-04-28 21:48:24 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh revenge in the form of sopping wet sheets. I remember that. It was either soaking pillows, or Cabal would saunter outside and promptly find dirt to roll in. You could see the smug look in his eyes as he was taunting us. So evil lol

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

AislinKagami In reply to Raigekidan [2010-04-28 21:53:08 +0000 UTC]

Lance was too fastidious to do the dirt thing. He wouldn't mind grass but if it was dirt, forget it! He was more interested in getting Mom's bed wet after bath time.

Funniest bath story I have is when my scottie was really small. We had a garden tub and Mom was taking a bubble bath. I heard a scream and her calling me to come get my dog. Duncan had been on the side of the tub and didn't understand the the bubbles weren't solid. He tried to walk on them and landed in the water. Poor little guy was all upset!

LOL! That sounds like the time that my black Shepherd Loki was walking the back trails with us. We were alongside a creek and it was overgrown with lily pads and other heavy vegetation. Well, she decided she was going to run towards the water, not realizing it was all floating plants. She got two huge leaps in and the third, the ground gave out and she completely submerged. When she came up, I don't think I had ever seen her looking so offended before LOL

AislinKagami In reply to Raigekidan [2010-04-28 22:04:03 +0000 UTC]

Duncan had this wide eyed..WHAT WAS THAT? look on his face. So cute. I love it when they do stuff like that cause it's always good to cheer you up.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Raigekidan In reply to AislinKagami [2010-04-28 22:06:07 +0000 UTC]

LOL I can just imagine his expression. Loki had the scowl and the "How dare the ground move from under my feet!" look. After that she had to bark at the water to voice her displeasure *snickers*

AislinKagami In reply to Raigekidan [2010-04-29 06:10:11 +0000 UTC]

I imagine she didn't. Duncan was pretty cautious around tubs as well. lol. Now my cat, she loves to sit on the edge of the tub while I'm in it and paw at the water. No idea what the fascination is with her.

Raigekidan In reply to AislinKagami [2010-04-29 06:12:42 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh now maybe she thinks that there are fishies lurking beneath the surface, just begging for her to scoop them out LOL

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

AislinKagami In reply to Raigekidan [2010-04-29 16:05:44 +0000 UTC]

I don't think ours have done the fishie thing but Shadow loves to chase squirrels.

Raigekidan In reply to AislinKagami [2010-04-29 16:12:48 +0000 UTC]

The picture I'm working on right now, is of my grandfather's old doberman Little Bit. She used to wind herself up like a top while waiting at the door whenever she heard the word squirrel. Once it was open, she'd race off like an uncoiled spring and she'd be gone lol

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

AislinKagami In reply to Raigekidan [2010-04-29 18:40:06 +0000 UTC]

Shadow's not that bad. The problem is that she'll be outside doing her business..then freeze when she sees a squirrel. And there's one in the yard that LOVES to torment her.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Raigekidan In reply to AislinKagami [2010-04-29 21:33:55 +0000 UTC]

That is the way of squirrels unfortunately. Evil little creatures, they love to torment the cats around here by sitting just outside the window the cats happen to be in. Whenever I walk outside I can see the frustration and the evil plotting of the kitties, should they ever escape.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

AislinKagami In reply to Raigekidan [2010-04-29 21:40:58 +0000 UTC]

They don't bother Seba much at all. Of course, she's indoor kitty strictly. The only time they cross into semi-awareness of her highness is when they run over the roof. And for little things, they sure are loud!

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Raigekidan In reply to AislinKagami [2010-04-30 08:48:47 +0000 UTC]

We're on the bottom floor, so thankfully we don't have to hear them run across the roof. But they are absolutely everywhere. We come home and usually we can see at least 15 of them just within ten feet of the car.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

AislinKagami In reply to Raigekidan [2010-04-30 16:25:22 +0000 UTC]

It makes life interesting. We live in a fourplex..all ground floor. So taking Shadow out is a challenge because she wants to go after those squirrels and you're hanging onto the leash going "NOOOO!!!!"

Whoa. At first I thought it was a black and white photography, but after reading your artist comment, hell I can't believe it was a drawing. ^_^ Nicely done, indeed, I like colors which drags up the awesomeness of this deviation, the contrast that makes this stunningly awesome, the textures, and the detail which makes this deviation looks so real and alive. It looks simple thought, yet stunningly awesome for a piece of drawing, I like the way its done, it looks so real.

I agree to Bamboo-Learning, your technique was your biggest asset on this piece.
Absolutely a great job. ^__^

Thank you so much Getting the highlights and just enough fur detail without overdoing it was probably one of the harder aspects about this picture. I'm pleased that it turned out as well as what it did and I'm hoping that my next attempts at drawing him only get better.

Stunning piece of work. The first thing that strikes me is the composition with the head against the black background filling the page at a nice three/quarter angle.

Your proportions are spot on. I had a collie like this one, and i can see that you really captured the character of this dog very well...nailed it.

You have a beautiful range of values here. The deep rich values of the nose, eyes and mouth play well against the lighter tones. As dark as some of these values are, nothing looks "pasted" on...it all flows and fits wonderfully. Such great technique in the transitions on the face and spreading up into the ears and down into the mane.

It's a sterling piece of work! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/cā€¦ " width="20" height="20" alt="" title="Clap"/>

I believe you did a good job on this piece.

Vision and originality wise I can't really say much since you used a reference image to make this piece but I do believe even so you still put your stamp on this piece, meaning, your style pops out.

Technique was your biggest asset on this piece no doubt about it. I believe your fur lines are indeed very well done. Making this piece almost a real sensation of what the fur would fell if touched.

Impact wise the expression of the eyes of the animal are really well done, although for me I prefer the shading and highlight that you've done on his nose.

Good job.

It's always good to see such a marvelous deviation. It is said that dogs are man's best friend. I agree with this statement, so, it's naturally to give to true friendship a tribute occasionally.
The author's skills are amazing. She has an intuitive, special style. The details of the dog are remarkable and mimic the original in a visionary way. If you take a look at the reference, you'll see how the dog almost blends in with the snow. Here though, the black background fits perfectly.
We often see pictures and drawings with dogs, true ... But not all of them are worth being seen, nor capture and tempt you to just take a closer look, many of them don't stand out at all. But with this picture, things are different. The brave, proud look of this dog surely remind you of your youth, or maybe of even yesterday. They say that dogs bear a resemblance to their owners. This expression is surely very common to many of us.
I have nothing to reproach concerning the technique. I'm not an expert on drawings, so I can't get into specific things, but I can appreciate a pleasant visual artwork.
This drawing can impress you, that's certain. It's too bad that our wonderful companions are with us for only a few years. Nevertheless, they always leave an impact upon our longer, but not eternal, lives.

Thank you so much. I completely agree with you; our companions are with us for such a short time and with each pet I've had, I've wished it could be longer. If I could go back, I would try to capture each of them on paper if only to try to share a small glimpse of what made each one of them special to me with other people. Thank you for your kind words, I am so happy that you like my drawing
