This picture takes me aback to a time when I played Goldeneye 64 for hours and that interesting cool factor of the essence of espionage
related to things like Russia, the snow and of course, a beautiful woman, that came with it and seemed to exist in all good espionage

She's sexy, she's wearing functional, weather-appropriate clothing, and she looks super bad-ass. This is the kind of character design that I love, the kind that makes the character look awesome and intelligent. I'm okay with female characters looking alluring, in fact, I really, really like it when they do, but not if the outfit makes them look stupid in the process. This is an outfit that's worn for a reason, not for being eye candy for the audience. Well done! Very well done, indeed!

A wise policy. Plus, it can be a lot of fun figuring out the gear a character wears while also making it look stylish. The protagonist of my flintlock fantasy series has an ensemble that's functional but also reflects her sense of fashion. So, yeah, she's wearing a bodice that flatters her figure, but the bodice is also magically enhanced so it's essentially kevlar. Getting shot by a musket still hurts like hell, but she'll survive. Thus, it has to be an overbust bodice that covers her heart, so she isn't flashing a lot of cleavage. She still ends up looking pretty badass, all the same. It was a blast getting her ensemble designed. Alas, I'm not much of an artist myself, so I need to find some other people who are. That's actually my whole point in coming to this site, in fact.

As do I. The thing I haven't settled on is what style of art I want for the books. Since I'm self-publishing through Amazon, I get to have more control over how the book looks than I would going through a publishing house, but that also means more of the work falls on me to do. I don't mind, of course, as I prefer having more control. I've heard some real horror stories from authors about publishing houses utterly ruining their book's chances of success because the marketing department made a lot of bad decisions regarding the cover and format. I'd rather those issues be in my hands than the overpaid "experts" who misread the marketplace. That's why I'm doing my own search for artists on this and other sites. Plus, I like the idea of being more involved with that aspect of publishing. It's quite fascinating.
