NS Coach/HEP Car #42 has been with NS since 2013 and supplies power to the rest of the train. Rarely is the generator compartment open, so I had to snap a picture of the V8 generator that is within the car. The HEP section was most likely open to help air out the car and help the HEP not overheat in the hot weather.
