I *glee'd* as soon as this picture was finished. I'm SO PROUD OF IT!

It's meant to be a scene in Mystic Equus: The Volcanic Kingdom somewhere at the start. If you've read my fanfiction Rainbow Fire, this is the equivalent to Cosmo's vision to Susanna at the very beginning of the story. Anyway, the picture is about when Susanna (the main character) has a horrible nightmare in which she and Swift (the main hero: Sonic's counterpart) are galloping through a dark wood. There's something really scary coming up behind them so they have to gallop like the wind to stay ahead. They also have to keep following a mysterious glowing light that appears to be leading somewhere, but they never find out where. The dream ends with a loud sound like a pistol firing, Swift falls, and Susanna is thrown off his back.
The scene was partly inspired by a level in one of my new computer games, "Ellen Whitaker: The Horse Mystery". In the level you have to gallop through the dark woods on your horse following a mysterious light. Typical nightmare situation. The trouble is, the camera is from whatever's chasing you's point of view, so if you get too far ahead you can't see where you're going, and every now and again the camera sweeps from side to side. So, all in all, a very scary level.

I haven't got Photoshop on my computer, just a program called "Photostudio" on the Mac. Photostudio is OK, but hasn't got nearly as many effects as Photoshop, so I had to improvise. I drew Swift and Susanna last night, scanned it into my laptop and then sent it to the Mac. In Photostudio I Googled the background image, took down the brightness and added loads of layers of slightly transparent black. I made the trees in the foreground, then used the paintbrushes to make that glowing light. To make the light on Susanna and Swift, I simply rubbed out the black on one of the black levels so the original colour showed through. Then I added more black on yet another layer.

OK, so I could use a bit more practice with this sort of thing, but I'm committed now. I'm gonna see what else Photostudio can do with a bit of initiative.
