Personality:

Airi is overall very well-mannered, having been educated in a strictly traditional Japanese family. Her way of speech and action is rather formal, so formal that some might say she's too old-fashioned and not quite catching on to modern trends. Frankly that seems to be so, she is well in her comfort zone musically/culturally, and can't seem to grasp newer, mainstream music. However, this doesn't mean she is not willing to attempt and understand it. She is very hard working and ambitious in her studies, and is willing to learn almost anything. Aside from her artistic values, she has no problem socializing. After all it is manners to initiate conversations with others. She is overall fairly laid back during free times, so those who can see past her formality find her easy to socialize and chat with. Also, she's quite bubbly and cheery, enough to change the atmosphere of an entire room. Airi is a very caring and reliable person, especially when a long term friendship develops, you can almost say she's the mommy of the group.

Biography:

Born in a rather small and rural village in the countryside of Japan, Airi has always been raised by her grandparents. Her parents who work in the city of Tokyo had always been to busy with their careers to take care of their daughter themselves. With the exception of phone calls and occasional holiday visits, Airi almost never sees her parents. However, always accompanied by her grandparents, she didn't feel lonely or different from the other children of the village, and she loved her grandparents deeply and was forever grateful. Her grandparents were fine people, and loved Airi very much. They, however were both strictly very traditional Japanese culturally, and that was how they educated Airi. To them Japanese tradition was very important, and that is displayed in speech, actions and even morals. Naturally, Airi took on their way of life and became who she is today.
Her grandparents had always wanted Airi to learn some sorts of Japanese Arts, in the end they both decided on teaching her the koto, this was mainly because her grandmother had always loved the instrument itself. Airi had no complaints, and properly followed through all the lessons. one. it was because of interest. and two, it was her sign of her gratitude towards her grandparents. Aside from koto, she also have minor experience with other Japanese instruments and even in dancing. Her grandparents believed her to be quite a talented child, and hoped for her to become a professional performer in the future to carry on this Japanese tradition and culture.
Airi had no doubts of her future plans, however to be frank it didn't seem to be her dream at all. Sure she liked the Japanese culture but it seemed that she had no say in what she wanted to do. This lingering feeling bugged her, especially in her teenage years, but she never had the chance to confront her grandparents on this matter. But more or less, it was more like she didn't know what she wanted to do in the future herself. Until, one day, after a koto lesson, she was rewarded a few hours of television for her hard work (she's typically not allowed to watch tv because her grandparents believed it to be distracting). It was only by chance but the channel she turned to was show-casing a new animation. It was something she had never seen before. The feeling of it, it seemed so different from her usual, dull, day to day events. Everything seemed so visual and colorful, and most importantly it seemed much more exciting. It was almost as if this was her first time associating with something modern. Overwhelmed by this new sensation, she was very curious in the making of this form of art and wanted to know more about it.
It took a while but she finally managed to confront her grandparents on this matter. Naturally, they weren't thrilled with this idea. To them, animation seemed so childish and meaningless. But to see their granddaughter be so ambitious was the first time in a long time. With time, they also seemed to understand Airi's interest, they became much more intact with modern culture and finally supported her.
