Wow. That is a really great portrait. I've seen a lot of portraits here and that has to be one of the best. I'm sure your dad will be thrilled. Excellent likeness. Thanks a lot I hope he'll like it, and honestly, I'm sure he will I'm almost always using mechanical pencils on my drawings, and that goes for this one too. Most of it with HB lead and some 2B lead Btw, I posted the progress of this drawing after you commented... Take a look if you like

i will certainly do that!
I got a set of different degree pencils for christmas, so I try to use anything from 2h to 8b...helps me a lot (i have a fear of dark shading)..it's truly amazing that you did this picture with a mechanical pencil...wow...

You'll have to overcome that fear, hun It's gonna do wonders for your art when dark shading is your slave By the way, when it comes to mechanical pencils, I actually prefer them over the normal ones... They are always sharp and let me do very fine details... Maybe I'm just lazy and don't like to sharpen pencils, but... Hmm... Whatever

i did one picture in mechanical pencils, and it turned out ok...i usually can't get my hands on them, tho, because my mom always tells me i stole them from her, so she steals them back..lol..

yes, working on my fear...i'll overcome it soon enough..i hope...
