As for what intrigues me: I love the serenity of this shot. It also has this air of secrecy, like it wasn't meant to photographed. It ads to the beautiy of this place. I also like how the bench is behind the archway...almost as if it's waiting for someone..maybe evn me. I can really connect to this! As a Pagan...it really speaks to me!

It's pretty! Don't be so worried that there's a Pagan temple in your town. Pagans are followers of earth based religions, and their rituals are nothing scary and dramatic like Hollywood portrays -there's no summoning demons (Pagans don't believe in demons and devils), orgies or blood-sacrifices. Pagans rituals are about honouring the Earth, the moon and the changing of the seasons, or the stages of human lives. Many denominations of Paganism have a view that everything turns in cycles (Spring, through summer autumn and winter back to Spring again, or new moon, through waxing moon, to full, through waning back to new, or birth, life, death and then re-birth ...) and their rituals are focused on these sorts of things, (probably why the benches are arranged in a circle) and are positive in outlook.

Wow, thanks for the comment! I actually think its pretty darn neat we have one of these, it just comes as a *shock* to me more than anything. Our town isn't what you would call...open minded? I live in Iowa for cryin' out loud. But I love the fact that we do have something different like this, reminds me theres actually an entire world out there. Anyway, I think the benches are meant to represent North, East, West, and South. You seem to really know your stuff, it'd be interesting to learn more, however, I have to go get going. Again, thanks!

No problem. I'm sorry for assuming it was a negative sort of shock. It's nice and a sign of the improving times to hear someone thinking it's a neat sign of diversity rather than being 'scared of the devil-worshippers'. I'm not from America, and don't know much about the geographic variations in tolerance. It's highly likely there's a bench for each direction, as the four directions are symbolically linked with the four elements (an important Pagan concept) in most denominations (although which element is in which direction can vary. I've been a practising Pagan for a few years, and to be honest I've lost track of exactly how many. I know I'm not the most knowledgeable Pagan out there, but I try my best to be accurate in what I say.
